lol, i guess you know you draw too much when you have trouble moving your wrist. wondering if there were any tips out there on how to not kill your hand.

get a gel wrist rest with a mouse pad. of course this only works if you draw with a mouse like me. don't know what to if you use a draw pad though.

taking painkillers is really stupid. you'll just damage yourself more without knowing it.
I'd suggest taking significant breaks (getting up, stretching, go and do something else) at least once an hour. Not to mention it helps your art to step away from it for a moment. (This doesn't mean you should submit each time.) You should also work in a way that makes you feel comfortable. If you aren't, that means something. |

Maybe your wrist is too stiff when you draw? try losening it when you draw go with the flow sometimes people don't know that. just a thought:)

Uhuh. Me too. I sport proudly a callous on the little finger of my left hand. Marcello is right about the break-taking. It's the only thing to relieve the stiffness.. I do that without submitting often, *don't tell anyone, but I have actually gone to town and left stuff up* lol It absolutely does help to step away and come back to it, you see stuff you didn't see when you had your nose at the screen. I get cramps in my hand to where it won't let go of the stylus, but I'm obsessive about whatever I'm doing. I shoot my bow until my shoulder comes out of joint and I'm so weak I can't draw it (hey, draw it! lol) back anymore.

Just to let you know, wrist braces are known to reduce circulation in the wrists, so that although they keep your wrists in a straight position they are still not a good solution unless you have very bad carpal tunnel syndrome. The best solution as has been mentioned twice already is too take a break often if you can't seem to get in a good position. Otherwise you should force yourself to keep a good posture and make sure that your wrists are straight when using the computer often.

the only time mine doesnt hurt and cramp is when I'm drawing flies... stretching helps.. get up..lie flat on the floor and raise your arms up and out to the sides and then up over your head with your fingers fully extended...take deep breaths.,you can feel it when you stretch right..you will feel the muscles in your shoulders .upper arm..forearm, and hand relax when you bring your arms back down.. anyway that works for me.. and you look really weird doing it too! what a plus! ((dix))

Haha, take a break from the computer and walk the dog .... if you dont have a dog then think of all the candy at the store nearest to you and go! .... mind you, if starts to hurt, go to the doctors! Your arm or hand will go numb if not, I tell from experience ... *Ahem* anyho, best of luck to you. ^^

@ @ i agree with Cello aswell..if you dont rest enough..and draw for hours on end..you'll end up getting carpell and such *has it now becuase i drew to much* just try to tone down on drawing..or strech..dont stress to much on it..
|
||||
SaheraNights (Mar 26, 2004)
and if using a mouse..dont grip it tough like I do itll make it worse X.X and Cello is right. take breaks and Dont stress your wrist out..Even if you have to go get some ice for your wrist you should still rest it
