yes.. this is a very good start..I agree...sharpen it up..do something with some kind of bg...and put in some contrast and you will have it!

It does have depth... the stem is 3 dimensional. I think the reason why the petals didn't stand out as well as you wanted (and you are probably too critical of yourself... we lefthanders tend to be that way lol) is because they were blurred a bit. Blurring the background and keeping the front subject in focus will give a still life some depth. It is very pretty, anyway. And left handers rock!
