ok, i really want to figure out perspective. if you could help me, i'd appreciate it. this might take awhile though. please don't delete it though, i promise it's going somewhere.

i would love some suggestions on it so far...the piano looks tilted. how can i fix that? and *roughly* does the person look ok? unfortunately i don't have my reference handy. hehe. so this is all from memory.

Not bad if this is from your memory! not bad at all! The perspective on the piano (and seat) are even...they both can serve well as an arial (sp!?) view. The person sitting however needs to work along with the other set perspectives. If you have trouble with that, there is a technique you can use to help you decifer out the perspective of objects in concordance to each other. I don't know how to explain by writing it out, but I can help you out by drawing an example for you.
fredinator (Mar 10, 2004)
i like it. it sort of reminds me of my sister playing the piano all the time. theres only one problem i see- where are the keys? i like how you show that part of the leg as half, because you are looking at the side of the person and you cant always see the whole leg. i do like it! i really like it.
dixielandcutie (edited Mar 10, 2004)
i'd appreciate that doodlibop! yea, i see it. (i did the lines, the piano/bench, and the person on separate layers, so that'll be easy to correct)

lol, and thanks fredinator ;p

oook. worked on it for a little bit, i think its getting better...still don't know if i'm happy with the arms...or legs for that matter...heh. needs so much work. but i'm pooped. so, yea all suggestions so appreciated.
davincipoppalag (Mar 10, 2004)
thats lookin way better already dix.. did ya like the pizza?
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 10, 2004)
I think you should play with the vertical angles of the piano on the side facing us until you feel like it's not leaning forward anymore. I would just have to play with it myself - I'm not the greatest perspective expert, but I think thats what's bugging about it. I just love the way you are branching out and trying new things - it's the best way to learn. This is such a neat angle.
fleeting_memory (Mar 10, 2004)
AH! *Cover's eyes* naked people playing piano! *flees*
Haha I'm just messin Dixie-I like this one so far-the repositioning of the person you did was very well done-can't wait to see it done and with cloths ^.~
LovelyLori (Mar 10, 2004)
I like... and I play piano! not naked, but...
dixielandcutie (Mar 11, 2004)
haha, yes, she will have some clothes soon. she's actually clothed right now...don't you see it? the new flesh colored body suit speedo is testing? haha...anyway, yea dba, somehing is still buggin about the piano, and im just gonna fiddle till it looks study. can't have the darn thing toppling over mid-bethoven, lol. and yes, davinci, the pizza was awesome, thanks :) i'm gonna give it another go in a little bit, so anymore suggestions?

omg, the arms/hands are gonna be the death of me! arg. pffft. ok, i need to look at something else. as always suggestions would be great, i'll be back to work on it in a bit.
Axil62 (edited Mar 11, 2004)
This is a two point perspective drawing. You need to make your vertical lines vertical (straight up and down) and the rest of your lines should be going to their respective vanishing points. In this case you would have at least two vanishing points, if you really wanted to go for it you'd have three. I like how you corrected the girls position. Click here to see what I mean http://www.geocities.com/inky1_2000/dixy.html
dixielandcutie (Mar 11, 2004)
ok, wait, ya lost me. what are thetwo vanishing points i have, and what would the third be?
davincipoppalag (Mar 11, 2004)
its comin along nicely dix!
dixielandcutie (edited Mar 11, 2004)
thanks axil, i really appreciate it! what's the third vp you were talkin about? *gets to work* you ROCK!
Axil62 (Mar 11, 2004)
The third VP would have been another VP either above or below the horizon line depending on what angle you want the viewer to be looking at the subject from...above or below, in this case it's above so the third VP would have been below the pic and all the vertical lines would have pointed to that VP.

ok, added the rest of the room, spose that mighta been helpful to do first, lol, but i'm kinda feelin this one out as i go. right now i'm lookin at woodgrain, coloring, shading, shadows...how to use all that to help perspective (especially with hands and feet, but also in general) any and all tips suggestions, observations, critique appreciated. thanks so much!
laurael (Mar 11, 2004)
Dixie...this is coming along quite nicely! You're doing a super job, and I can't wait to see this finished!
DinoFlorist (Mar 11, 2004)
That was a nice page to show the perspective. I know I have trouble with it too.
davincipoppalag (Mar 11, 2004)
This whole thing should be saved..as an example of how this place SHOULD work... wonderful both on the progress of the picture (who can resist helping mizz dixie!) and from the helpful constructive info you great artists have given.. this is great...
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 11, 2004)
Yes, Dixie! It looks right now! You might want to have the piano cast a slight shadow on the wall behind it - play a little with that, too, until it looks right to you. This is a good example of how this place should work! (Except Axil won't teach me to draw a glass of water!!!) :( *Folds arms and pouts*
davincipoppalag (Mar 12, 2004)
Lets kidnap him and withhold art materials until he does... I will drive..you bring the .44
dixielandcutie (Mar 12, 2004)
that doesn't sound like a bad idea at all! i'm gonna stow away in your trunk davinci, i wanna learn too! hehe. ok, dba, sounds like a plan...i'll fiddle with that. also, is there a way to make the brush smaller than the small medium large options they have there? and what's that second bar underneath the opacity do? *still not sure what lascaux is capable of*

ok, i'm gonna try an put in a long haul and possibly finish this sucker up tonight. we'll see though. i do wanna wrap it up in the next day or so definitely becaue i have a couple other ideas i wanna start working on too. oh i'm so excited! thanks so much for your time and patience helping me figure this stuff out! i can't wait to apply it all to the next ones. *grin* yall are awesome!

dixielandcutie (Mar 13, 2004)
lol, i dunno davinci, but something happened when i did my most recent version. marcello's nice enough to restore the other version, and i am lucky enough to be able to redo the last bit with all the knowledge i gained from the first time, haha. how's that for the glass is half full? ;p thanks marcello. and i'll do final version take 2 as soon as i can :)

ok. of course, as soon as i submitted i noticed a million things i wish i could fix. but i think it's about time to call this one done anyway. thanks for all your help; i learned so much on this one! anything else ya notice, please mention though, and i'll remember it for next time. *whew* the perfectionist in me is cringing...but yea...here it is...
davincipoppalag (Mar 13, 2004)
dix..I think you did a really really good job on this..(((mizz dixie)))
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 14, 2004)
Dixie! I am so proud of you! You have come such a long way, baby! Your perspective turned out great, and the drawing is just great! I know how hard you worked on this and you learned so much while you were doing it.
