Helnwein Study

reference: http://www.helnwein.de/werke/home/home.html I was inspired to do a study from one of his paintings (oil and acrylic on canvas) after being directed to his site from a link that zep left on one of my drawings. This guy rocks my boat.

Helnwein...Helnwein...:O YES! I know who he is! I read a good book about him, and his paintings. It was him who did the medical pictures, right? And those images of famous people that were so dark you could only see in just the right light. This is goooood, Cindy, goooood.

I like your use of both simple shapes and colors. I think they mirror each other well since they're both very straight-forward and to the point. Also the shoulders are looking very naturalistic to me. I want to snuggle with them.

Although it is cute, and being a fox makes it automatically extra cute, I can't readily tell what it is when it's shrunk down to the avatar size which is just under one quarter the size you drew it at. I think if I hadn't seen the full size first it would have been a little harder to identify it as an avatar. I'd suggest that if you make another one at any point here that it'd be a good idea to zoom out enough when drawing for a moment that it looks about the avatar size, and maybe fill up more of the canvas with the character. I like the soft colors and blending you used. |

We have handles like that on the doors in my house. Fortunately, we don't have a simliar paint job. But for this picture, the colors are awesome. Blue and orange is one of my favorite color combinations, even though I dislike orange for the most part. I think my favorite part of this is the shine on the door above the handle, the whole gradations of it. Nice and smooth, I like it when you spend time and put some foreplay into it.

Amazing job. I can't believe how detailed you did this on a 437 x 434 canvas! I especially like how the lines get thickers towards the front of the picture, and then the lines are thinner further in the background. Also, perfect choice of colors. I hope you become famous some day, and I hope you keep up the good work!
