Specialty Boards/Contest!
solve (May 31, 2007)
As the title states. Imagery like this is not shocking to me.
Personally I find that the majority of the public enjoy extreme gore, sexual deviance, and death. Just think about what we view.

Gore and death: Hostel, Saw, 300, 28 weeks later, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, CSI series, OZ, The Sopranos, etc.
Sexual Deviance: Law and order SVU, The Tudors, Just porn alone is a HUGE market and includes many themes that would blow others minds.

The news we all watch holds a cache of horror and fear.

And we LOVE IT. We want more of it. Then again, its apart of our nature as much as love, healing, and creation are. Well... don't show love making on TV because of children (Rather be parents). Remember the 80s? Some shows were essentially softcore porn.
I find that gore and extreme situations can also be utilized to make beautiful art and cinema.
Ichi The Killer, once past all the insanity, rape, and gore. Was a really good movie, and had some very intelligent ideas behind it on top of beautiful Imagery. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance as another one. VIDEODROME, SUSPIRIA, The Box, etc. All works of art.

Then you have the drawn artists like Junji Ito, Hans Bellmer, Surhiro Maruo, Kage, etc.

So these vile themes can be used past the newest shitty horror movie. I think the only people who find such shocking are those not ever exposed, or those predisposed to be shocked by modes of thinking (ex: religion, culture, etc.)

SO AFTER ALL THAT BULLSHIT I JUST WROTE, WHAT IS SHOCKING TO ME?

A world where we do not kill and hurt each other, a world where people loved each other, societies of people built on selflessness and community, a world where all are truly equal.

But this is merely long-dead-romantic-rhetoric made for people to impale themselves upon. Such a utopia is fantasy for now.

I officially disqualify myself from this contest because I could not come up with an image that expresses what I find shocking. Sorry for making you read all of that.

Basically what I got from this is: it can be good or evil but when well done and with a meaning it´s ok .

JK-Arts (Jun 16, 2007)

this is neat to look at.. has almost a film consistency about it, with all the right areas popping through into the foreground, it's really interesting.. good job

that's the one thing I'm sure it's doing in this picture. The rest could be so many things in my imagination.

You know what these designs of yours remind me of? The Art's and Crafts movement, with the likes of Frank Lloyd Write and William Morris and more importantly Charles Mackintosh of which your designs strongly resemble (and are my favorites of that era). These can be wallpaper's, or carvings or lovely paintings. Every one shows a uniqueness that's not seen much on here. This reminds me of glass work on a vase or bowl. Or metalwork. Really nice Lori.

I am so screwed beyond belief. I'm posting this more as dated info. for myself than to be sharing it with others. I've been really sick lately with fever, weight loss, stomach problems, joint pain, skin rash, etc..etc... The dr. isn't positive yet while we still run tests but seems pretty sure that I have a new disease. I am already bipolar. The medicine they give you for this new illness makes bipolar people's symptoms spin out of control. It has taken years and years for me to find somewhat of a balance with the bipolar, and even that is always just temporary because after a while the medications will stop working and it's time to start all over again. With my mind under attack already, I really don't need this shit with my body too. Currently I'm in alot of pain and can't sleep because of it. I haven't been given any new medicine yet and now I'm not sure if I can even take it, because I'd much prefer to be able to think clearly over dealing with physical pain... but it is bad right now and some symptoms are really bad for me, so I don't know what I'm going to do.

You always have a way of putting all that emotion and pain into a picture....it sucks that you're sick.
Sweetcell (May 31, 2007)
Oh Lori I'm so sorry to hear that. I've been diagnosed with mild schizophrenia and it took years to find the right meds to help me. I know what it's like when you haven't that much control over your mind at times. Now this physical hell to deal with. We're all here for you, and hope something can be done, and in the meantime maybe you should look at alternatives, not to replace medicine but augment it. Meditation, diets, herbs. Whatever heppens you have the support here. (((Lori)))
lori (May 31, 2007)
well I'm very sorry you have to deal with similar shit too, Barb, and thanks... we should talk sometime

I just moved and went from one roomate's dog that barked at everything with no volume control to a relatively quiet yapper. Can't complain.
