I sketched this goofy skull/zombie today and I figured I'd color it on 2draw. Unfortunately, it didn't transfer as smooth as I'd hoped it would (via scanning and making it a font key). Here is the original sketch: skullyThe whole transferring through fonts technique just isn't worth it unless the artwork is smooth. Oh well.

My electric guitar is on its stand right now. And the flower does too suck butt. They look so much prettier when I draw them in my sketchbook.
lori (edited Jan 5, 2008)
oh the guitar thing was about some weird pic I drew ... lemme see if I can think of something else to do to this. And noooo the flower does NOT suck butt... by the way, you can't yap with your teeth closed :) |

I'm calling this a "painting cure" piece, as related to "the talking cure" or " talking treatment" used in Freudian psychology and psychoanalysis. "Painting cure" would be a subcategory of the general term "art cure". Similar ideas and methods already exist in art therapy but there are very few unique terms associated with the psychology of art. I think "painting cure" could be such a term.

Paint two and call me in the morning
lori (Jan 24, 2008)
so do you feel better now? I do. I like these ones when you use the reddish orange and the bone colors together, along with the angles you use. This one's cool with the sharp angles yet curves too

excellent shape and angle. You never cease to put out works that pleasing to the eye. |

but what can you do?
STARZSHINE (Feb 6, 2008)
Very cool, silk screen look, was this done with layers, and masking? I am a newbie and would love some pointers on how this is done. :D thanks
patienceisoverrated (edited Feb 7, 2008)
thanks, I use layers, I don't find masking very useful unless you are using your brush with anti-alias turned off, it's always screwing up around edges. I use the round brush on full flow/opacity with the soft edge, the third one down to the left of the brush size selector thingy, and then use the same eraser to whittle down or define the shapes. This is a lot like using the pen tool, if you're familiar with shi-painter, but without the flow. Lascaux has a really useful 'preserve layer transparancy' thing that can be used a little like mask and will preserve the smooth edges, that's how I did the crane in the feather shape. I drew in the feather shape on a new layer in all one colour, then preserved transparancy, so I could draw the crane in without messing up the details on the edges of the feathers. The girl and background are on the bottom layer, the spine on the next, and then the feathers and crane on top.

This has a renaissance feeling about it, yet it has a whimsical note as well. This is one of your styles I really admire.

That rocks. i want to be able to blow bubbles inside bubbles.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 24, 2008)
Very cool... a realistic bubble with a "painterly" man blowing it. Last month I started most of my mornings alone outside, watching the sun rise and blowing bubbles into the new light. I love bubbles! :)
davincipoppalag (Jan 24, 2008)
Great bubbles and you got the look of the movement of him blowing into them really well too |

don't know
lori (edited Jan 24, 2008)
lol yeah but what do you think of the drawing?so "life is like a box of chocolates" would be more intelligent? and at least I smell good
davincipoppalag (Jan 24, 2008)
Well I like it. It looks almost like it was made with inlaid stone. It's very cool
Kloxboy (Jan 24, 2008)
Haha, right on. As for the drawing, I like the style of the face and the color combo. Gump's mother was a fucking genius, that's all I have to say about that. ;)
Sweetcell (Jan 24, 2008)
Using phrases and large words that most people don't know are usually in the perview of TV execs so they can make the viewers think they're smart enough to know what people want. That's why we have crap TV and the writers are on strike. X}Looks like it's painted on faded homemade paper. |

It's pretty, I love the diffused amber light. But those trees make it seem unfinished. If you fixed those this would be so much better. |
