I went about this very messily, but I enjoyed it anyway... this would be fanart, I guess, of a pic in my calendar... you may see more art (better art) like this @ www. brushdance.com

It's very beautiful and also interesting to look at....I used comic books as my inspiration for anatomy all the time when I first started oekaki..but now I don't need them...and i think eventually you will be able to come up with more original pieces....you are a great artist and we all have faith in you...:)
STARZSHINE (May 9, 2008)
lori, we all go through that, when we were young our imaginations could keep us drawing all day long, then we age and life sucks the imagination and magic right out of our minds and hearts, so don't feel bad, we all have that issue, I have things floating up in my head but can't seem to lasso them and put them down on paper, the way my mind's eye sees them, that is probably why I get stuck using photo ref. so much, it is easier than frustrating my self to death trying to pick my brain and make my hands produce what my mind sees....oh such is the life of a cynic...lol
lori (May 10, 2008)
well said --- and thanks backmagicwoman :)

This is very nice Lori! Reminds me of some sort of Alex Grey art. http://www.alexgrey.com/ The artist who did art for the well known Band called "Tool".

This looks like a perfect "halloween" moon......I keep thinkin' I'm gonna see something spooky coming out of the trees....."lol"!! Nice pic!! :) I think this pic could use a werewolf popping out of the trees, to howl at that beautiful "full moon".....:)
Miss_DJ (May 31, 2010)
I love the atmosphere you've created..perfect blend of blues.
lori (May 31, 2010)

this is not an abstract picture; I did an exact portrait of Lane County and Eugene, Oregon, air quality. This is it. Okay, maybe we have a lot of traffic and cars, and stuff like that, but you notice that the smog is very GREEN, with a little blue at the bottom. That means, it's spring, everything is blooming. Less rain (once in awhile.)they just tell you, "stay indoors and don't breathe."

can't leave, living in the old family shack;hoping the economy gets so bad here, and gas gets so high, people can't drive someday; blow up the gulf of mexico oil riggs.no gas, no traffic. who says recessions are bad?

the first time I saw the air quality in the area I was shocked, I could not believe how bad the air was
lori (Jun 12, 2010)
that's horrible quality! I think you should leave there.
Flubbles (Jun 12, 2010)
The air wasn't this bad when I had my own weed shed when I was younger.

I really like Frank Frazetta. His paintings are awesome but what I really love about him is his imagination, the fact that he painted his stuff really fast, that he had no problem starting to use his left hand.
That guy was a real inspiration and ass kicker.

Imagination is king

Hey sure. Draw with whatever you've got. Accuracy of lines doesn't matter that much, if you have a clear vision of what you want to draw.
Are the visions you're talking about visually clear and lasting? Care to tell me about one of them? :)

I feel like I've been relying a little too much on *happy* accidents with my paintings. Most of the time I just start to draw a few lines and then screwing with them until they turn into something I like. I can't really say beforehand what's going to come out and I have to live with what the canvas throws at me.
Reading about Frank gives me an incentive to practice a a different workflow where I aim for a straight vision.
elly (Jun 11, 2010)
Imagination is hard to get on a canvas for some artists, like me =p, but i see you have no prob doing so! I love the muted colors and the brush strokes! And Frank Frazetta is amazing!
Suntan (Jun 11, 2010)
Looks like he has morphed out of his surroundings. I like the sameness of them. Feels like he doesn't know what to do or want to do with the light on him. :)
dorothyblueeyes (Jun 12, 2010)
very good painting; you're probably just as good as Frazetta. A lot of people here are as good as commercial artists. I'm not a leftie, but I've had to learn to do a lot of things with my left hand as well as my right, like just write simply on a piece of paper.

If, for example you had a stroke, and you only could use the left side of your body, I have known people who train themselves how to paint with their left hand. Not easy, but when you have to do it, you can train that side of your brain to do it eventually.it just takes a huge amount of practice and training.Ouch.
