Oooh, more pictures of the home of my heart! You have a real gift for rendering this kind of scene, Cindy! :) There are two points that I have to question, though, for future reference (again, not that I could do this myself, but I can tell that these two points don't look quite right -- my eye being better at this than my hands, as yet, at least).

First, the ripples in the dry wash of the path seem to me to be too consistently angled, instead of following the curves of the path, the way I'd expect them to, if they were caused by water running over the mud during flood time (which is what I think of when I see that kind of image). They'd make more sense if there were a way for the water to have acted on the land outside of the path, the same way, but with the wall there, I'd expect the water to be restricted to the path more, and curve to follow it, during flash floods.

Second, the tufts of greenery on the bush don't seem to have a correlary set of darker areas, within the shadow of the bush, so it looks to me like the shadow is of a bush that doesn't have as much foliage on it as this one does.

These are both fairly minor points though, which I offer only in order to point out directions in which you can continue to work on advancing your work, which is already spectacular, and VERY evocative of the landscapes you've been painting. <smile> As you may be able to tell, what I've seen so far has been enough to spur me to go back through the pictures in your user board, in order to see more of these pieces! <grin> But even great artists can still grow, and I hope I've offered some useful suggestions for your consideration, here. :)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 13, 2004)
sure, always, I appreciate all the helpful suggestions. (Actually, it doesn't rain often where this was taken from and it's very windy, so I assume the ripples were caused by the wind since the sand changes rapidly - although the rain does a number on this wash when it does happen)

being different is one thing that humans do best, if there wasnt different people, than we would all be "normal" and thats just boring, you shouldnt need to be normal, but instead think of all the people doing everything in perfect harmony... its boring we need something to make life special, its people who are different that make it all better, and exciting. good pic and it could use a bit more color

Thanks you two. I was going to do that DBA, but reached the limit quite fast with this one. Wish they would up that a bit for this board, as it really doesn't have enough when you use layers.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 11, 2004)
Yes, I know. 800kb (or even 6 or 7) for this board and 1mb for the advanced board would be perfect. Everyone would be ecstatic.
davincipoppalag (Mar 11, 2004)
great idea..great draw laureal... I agree.more contrast between the sky and the birds... also.. I would like to see more random sizes and colors of the twigs in the nest.. I love what you have, but it looks a bit unnatural being all of smooth uniform sizes of the same color..(almost like they have a nest supplies departement at Home Depot lol) ..I am sure one of the mods will move this up to a bigger space board for you..its a great pic and deserves to be finished!

"Ha ha davinci...you are 'so' funny..."(O.M.) That's what I was going for(sarcasm) Wow...home depot sales are great, aren't they?

I am really curious about something, and I thought this would be a good place to take a little survey on it... I have noticed (when I pay attention to it) that when doing anything "artsy", such as going to a museum, art gallery, openings, even playing drawing games, that the left-handed people generally outnumber the right-handed people. This would sort of confirm that we left handed people are in our right mind, which is the creative side of the brain. (Not to say, by any means, that there are...

i think you did a pretty good job! some areas you might wanna consider: hair, eyes, skin all have many different shades of color-so maybe try experimenting with that a little bit. looking at yourself in the mirror could give you some ideas. also the hair should completely cover the eyebrow on the spot where they overlap. but i think you did a nice job! keep it up :)

pretty..we need to see the real ones soon..I'm tired of winter...yea smooth out the grass... sharpen up the petal edges with the airbrush and add a tad more contrast to separate the front and back petals and add some more depth.. I like it..
dixielandcutie (Mar 8, 2004)

DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 8, 2004)

there... blooooey... sorta...
and Axil... you can't seriously be asking l'il ole me for a pointer? c'mon....
it was so easy, that's why I said "yay"... I just drew the outline in white, filled it white, threw the blender on, grabbed my lilac, and whishy washyied all throughout...... so simple!
davincipoppalag (Mar 12, 2004)
well you have a nice touch doing your "wishy washying" ..its not as easy as it looks..these came out really well..and now the backgrounds darker.. you can see them! In fact, it might be a tad too dark.. why not a nice light blue? Then the leaves will show too..
LovelyLori (Mar 12, 2004)
