like your style.not in love with her stare, i kinda wish it were less glossy and she was looking at me. as it is she's looking a bit down. otherwise skillful and beautiful contrast.
TheCrimsonKing (Feb 20, 2011)
I was pretty sure this was moosh all up in this, but no dice. Either way brilliant.
AliceA (Feb 21, 2011)
thank you all for the comments! :O I had this painted on laptop and the ratio and balance is completely different on my desktop pc, but it's still not so bad. The glossy haunted eyes and the mouth are what I like more ^^ |

a bit less shit than I expected. The vagueness sells it. I can't draw straight forward a somewhat realistic face(were talking no ref). I always have to draw a vague mess and then pick out parts which look right. Almost always when I feel like knowing how to draw a certain part going in and making the change often makes it worse. A bit frustrating. Dunno what it would take to work on the details without fucking it up. I'm currently trying to memorize one portrait of a girl(photo) to have a mental reference. My guess is that it's a bit too friggin hard to actually construct a head three dimensionally, we usually just draw 2d impressions. That's why everybody fails so hilariously when trying to draw a head facing up or down. but it's been pretty depressing so far trying to remember it....yay. It better be worth it
Dr.Moony (Feb 9, 2011)
yeah some...but it's very basic and whacky. What does it matter how hard it is to recognize a face from an odd angle when you have a 3D representation in your mind that you reliably can rotate and use as your reference? I do that 'draw person from a different angle' thing from time to time. The clash I have with it is that you usually can't really verify your accuracy unless you have a photo of that other angle with the same light. Without checking with reality you'll probably end up learning it wrong which is something I'd like to avoid.
shults (Feb 9, 2011)
Good point, but it's only valid if you see a head from all angles. Only then can you assume to have a 3D representation. Otherwise, (like in photos) you can 'complete' the missing parts in your mind, but there's no guarantee for it to be accurate.
marcello (Feb 10, 2011)
practice practice practice. draw 50 faces a day. you'll get better.
Dr.Moony (Feb 10, 2011)
that's nicely oversimplified. |

I Drew my Hot chocolate cup~Starbucks makes me all warm inside! This is supposed to be a medium.... but lt looks more like a small xD
lori (Feb 7, 2011)
No, I believe you're wrong.
Violet_Rose (Feb 10, 2011)
0-o it's weird how most of these comments arent even about my drawing...=/
enjoydotcom (Feb 11, 2011)
Awwww, well Violet, the drawing is very nice. I love the little smudge of chocolate on the lid and cup. The way you did the lettering and logo is excellent, the only thing that might be a bit off (but I might be off ;P) is the straightness of the bottom and lid. I feel it could be a bit rounder, again, I may be wrong.
Bubblicious (Feb 11, 2011)
They tend to do that Violet ;) It's a nice drawing though. I love Starbucks. |

No the ref was pretty good I thought, I've not got the shape of his head right yet. I'll have a fiddle later to get it finished, I'm not overly fussed though. You win some you lose some.

highly ethnic faces tend to have proportions different from the average ideal that people are taught to draw, and I had a hard time with the lower half of her face still not looking right in several ways.original- link
Jessor (edited Dec 29, 2010)
kinda looks like one of my Athabaskan friends from Alaska. Whats the spot on her head?
tanuki (edited Dec 29, 2010)
I don't know, but it's either something cultural or it's covering something on her face. I included it because I didn't have a specific reason to omit it.
TheCrimsonKing (Jan 1, 2011)
"highly ethnic" :)
tanuki (edited Jan 2, 2011)
I'm not really sure how correct that is, and it might not be the best way to put it, but I really don't know of another way to say it. It's basically just what I was taught refers to people with highly distinct features common to a relatively isolated population. It's as opposed to homogenized faces common to americans and other populations of mixed ancestry where you can hardly tell where someone's family is from just by looking at them. My own background going back just 5 generations includes at least 5 different countries and possibly multiple continents, so no one can tell where my family is from just by looking. |
