Stupid whiners. The dark version is better.
I've got the sun light pouring through my windows and I can see it fine.

if i had seen the darker version first, i probably wouldn't have been able to decipher the image. now, looking at both, the darker image packs slightly more punch in the emotive department, but-- hell, they're both *smashing*. love the detail, the style, the masterful use of light and dark, all of it. usually i find text in artwork distracting and unnecessary, but the words you use really help clarify the theme. great stuff.

I was less concerned about the proportions, which I know are a little off, as I was about the concept of the expression, since I normally don't really draw expressions. Also, hair is like @_@ to draw.

Hair is an insane time sink, just like plants. Not worth it imo. Unless you use a few tricky strokes
