It may be the pot calling the kettle black, but the beginner board is in bad shape. Try harder.

Okay, considering my un-1337 skills, I usually stay out of these sorts of things... but ya know... I have to say, Parelis is right. It's gotten awful. Those of us on the beginner board who are here because we want to improve and get constructive criticism from the better artists are getting nowhere because as soon as we post something, we get either 20 "it's kool lol!!!!!!!!111" comments or 20 5-minute pictures saying "i was bord plz coment but not if u r just going 2 be critical!!11" drowning it out so nobody sees it. The beginner board is here for practice and improvement, not posting pointless crap that nobody wants to look at. Remember, even the drool-worthy deities on the advanced and elite boards were new to oekaki once. Being a newbie is no excuse for not trying to get better.

Thanks for bringing it up, Parelis.

taori: drool worthy deities! Great term... mind if I use it more often?

Yes, the spammers are becoming a problem, and this picture is a marvelous example of what it feels like sometimes wading through all the 12 minute pictures. Seriously folks, the longer you spend on a drawing, the more practice you get, the better you'll be. Just spend the extra half hour on it, and you'll be that much happier with yourself.

Yes, the spammers need to stop. N00bs are ok, as long as they improve and except peoples constructive critisism (?).
rikurules (Feb 28, 2004)
Ok, ok i admit it... ur right... im probably one of the spammers... but when u give "constructive feedback" well i said please dont give me mean stuff i meant like u can tell me what else i can do to make it better... but do u have to say... "wtf is up with this crazy shit... this is horrible spam u suck loser''

Noodling around with grayscale shading, and drawing male faces. I think I gave this guy too much cheek and not enough forehead, he looks a little screwy to me.

naw, not screwy. Varsity Football, is what comes to mind. little forhead (for small brain) and big head, beefy neck in general. the only thing that doesn't fit is his shoulders just arent broad enough. They aren't 5 times the size of a regular human.

My CRKT folding knife glows funky blue in the monitor light.

it has a background.
Parelis (Dec 13, 2003)
I actaully was going to draw it sitting on my tablet, but I decided to just add the shadow and move on to other things. It would look nicer with something in the BG and with that scribble gone, but I was really just interested in trying to replicate the effect of multiple light sources on metal. I'm happy with what I did in that respect, and learned a bit more about using the app.
MC.Cracka (Dec 14, 2003)
completely KICK ASS, but the bolt on the top of the blade is transparent.
mikhail (Dec 21, 2003)

Welcome ^^
Parelis (edited Dec 11, 2003)
Thanks for the warm welcome! To respond to you all:
Lascaux is a sweet app, I was just referring to oekaki in general; I'd never tried it before and didn't realize how a few pixels made such a huge difference when you've only got a 300x300 space to work with. I've got even more respect for the people who do amazing things on these boards now.

I'm still feeling out how things work here, so I figured I'd submit this to beginner to be safe. I'm glad you think it's good enough for a higher level board.

Her neck seems kinda wide now that you mention it. That's one of the things you stop noticing when you stare at something for an hour straight I guess.
furyofroy (Dec 11, 2003)
I think her neck is the right size; the furry collar just makes it seem a little thick.
Neko (Dec 13, 2003)
Mm, makes justice to Felicia.
