in a crazy mood i don't like at all, lethargic/apathetic/dizzy/spacey, tried to run it off, then dance it off, then draw it off, and nothing's working so i guess i'll try and sleep it off now.

She's flashing, she's flashing......

Looks like a picture in the process of developing. If anyone's ever developed film you know what I mean, with that red bulb on to protect the film as you put the sheet through different chemicals.
Noremac (Jun 4, 2007)
that's a boobie :D
Cameo (Jun 7, 2007)
Lovely work, solve! Very provacative!

some of the shading especially around the neck and mouth are just wonderful! The glasses are a little awkward, but the figure is very nice.

Went through a couple of ideas. Then I thought "oh hay, practice a portraits since you are going to be drawing Lori later". So I did this as a quick practice. The overall angle of the face is off. I am still training myself to draw what I am looking at rather, adding or making features up.

Ref is: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/marcusa/9e9c8362-e167-11db-a010-7bae0c6e557.jpg

I dont plan on making any revisions to this. BUT Any critiques, or mistakes you notice and want to comment on, are very welcome. Helps my brain thingy learn.

Yeah, the angle is pretty off, there still is a strong resemblance, which is good.

As the title states. Imagery like this is not shocking to me.
Personally I find that the majority of the public enjoy extreme gore, sexual deviance, and death. Just think about what we view.

Gore and death: Hostel, Saw, 300, 28 weeks later, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, CSI series, OZ, The Sopranos, etc.
Sexual Deviance: Law and order SVU, The Tudors, Just porn alone is a HUGE market and includes many themes that would blow others minds.

The news we all watch holds a cache of horror and fear.

And we LOVE IT. We want more of it. Then again, its apart of our nature as much as love, healing, and creation are. Well... don't show love making on TV because of children (Rather be parents). Remember the 80s? Some shows were essentially softcore porn.
I find that gore and extreme situations can also be utilized to make beautiful art and cinema.
Ichi The Killer, once past all the insanity, rape, and gore. Was a really good movie, and had some very intelligent ideas behind it on top of beautiful Imagery. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance as another one. VIDEODROME, SUSPIRIA, The Box, etc. All works of art.

Then you have the drawn artists like Junji Ito, Hans Bellmer, Surhiro Maruo, Kage, etc.

So these vile themes can be used past the newest shitty horror movie. I think the only people who find such shocking are those not ever exposed, or those predisposed to be shocked by modes of thinking (ex: religion, culture, etc.)

SO AFTER ALL THAT BULLSHIT I JUST WROTE, WHAT IS SHOCKING TO ME?

A world where we do not kill and hurt each other, a world where people loved each other, societies of people built on selflessness and community, a world where all are truly equal.

But this is merely long-dead-romantic-rhetoric made for people to impale themselves upon. Such a utopia is fantasy for now.

I officially disqualify myself from this contest because I could not come up with an image that expresses what I find shocking. Sorry for making you read all of that.

Basically what I got from this is: it can be good or evil but when well done and with a meaning it´s ok .

I just like your description, that you actually expressed your thoughts...its nice every once in a while to have the mystery deepen.
JK-Arts (Jun 16, 2007)
What's with all the words. Why not draw something that would say all you just said, It probably would of won if you did.
Speak with your art.
