Gigge
(Jul 5, 2004)
I just thought the picture was cool because he looked like the Muppets' Beaker incarnate.
Chantilly (Jul 6, 2004)
hehe I just love the hair! makes me smile every time I look at it. Almost looks like a modern piece crossed with that one artist..ugh, the one who does the famouse portraits in mexico. yeah, that one. anyways, I like it Gigge!
emmamommalag (Jul 6, 2004)
It makes me smile, too. I love it, Gigge.
mangaflip (Jul 7, 2004)
it afraid me ..his realism
laurael (Jul 8, 2004)
I love this whole picture. Love that hair the best though...it's so awesome! |

I was mulling over what to draw next when 'Big Eyed Fish' came on my player. So, I drew a big eyed fish. Ok, since the other link didn't work...http://www.goredsea.com/EN_the-magazine-photo-gallery-gallery-red.aspx. It's the Lion Fish.
Gigge (Jul 6, 2004)
Ahh...I see the problem. There's a single quotation in the link that the auto-hyperlink isn't picking up. i'll just leave it. Wouldn't want to upset anyone by not mentioning a reference ;D. The really nosy can type the link if they want.
emmamommalag (Jul 6, 2004)
That's a strange-looking fish but he's kinda cute and very well drawn. :)
DinoFlorist (Jul 6, 2004)
You didn't have to tell me it was a Lion Fish, but the coloration seems different from most I have seen (which are Volitan or Fuzzy Dwarf Lions). I am going to guess that this is a Dwarf anyway.
Anna (Jul 7, 2004)
VERY nice Gigge :D Love all the orange shades you used in it. /clap |

I found an old sketch book from 6th or 7th grade. It looks like the last thing I was working on was cloth. So, I decided to try again. I think the contrast of the folds here may be a bit sharp, giving the cloth an upolstry feel rather than cotton or silk, or polyester or whatever it actually is. Things I learned this draw.....patience pays off and rather strange for a black and white draw, that right clicking acts as an eyedropper tool. Go figure.
lp_phaery (Jun 11, 2004)
I like it.....i agree its really realistic looking. Detail is AMAZING!!!!!!!!
mx (Jul 7, 2004)
Very nice...I like the fact that you gave it an "aware" unfinished look...i.e, you knew when to stop when it was looking good:) go well mx
Gigge (Jul 7, 2004)
Wow, you are browsing way back. And, giving me too much credit. I cut this piece out of a magazine 15 or so years ago. That's all there was to the clipping, no more to copy. ;)
LovelyLori (Jul 7, 2004)
wow... awesome! |

Thunderstorm coming. Just saving before the power goes.
Gigge (Jul 4, 2004)
You all are so observant! Yeah, the monument is too short. I was having great trouble getting it thin so I 'fattened it up a bit which made it look shorter than it is. I seem to have fallen asleep while drawing this. It was supposed to be at night with fireworks and no blossoms on the trees. Go figure.
emmamommalag (Jul 4, 2004)
Oh, but it's absolutely beautiful with the blossoms. Great work, Gigge.
LovelyLori (Jul 4, 2004)
:( this is one of those pics that my pc makes disappear... why on earth does that happen? just to some? so weird.... wish I could see it close up, but the thumbnails look gorgeous anyway!
davincipoppalag (Jul 5, 2004)
I dont know why that happens either Lori..but try this left click on the picture (where it should be) and then when the dropdown shows..click on "show picture' see if that works |

Based on a photo of my cat. Got a little overzealous with the contrast and shading.
Anna (Jun 23, 2004)
Excellent :D I love all the detail in the leaves.. can't wait to see it done
emmamommalag (Jun 23, 2004)
I like this a lot. Nice job on the contrast and shading, Gigge. Pretty cat you have there. :)
Aubrey (Jun 24, 2004)
Very pretty and fluffy cat. I like how half the picture is in the shade and half has all the sun. Good job!
laurael (Jul 1, 2004)
Such a cute cat, this Cleopatra is. She looks very comfortable and content there. The contrast and shadows are done very well...great job. :] |

Better to have that mess in a sketch than in my head....no reference.
sal (Jun 26, 2004)
cool pic... i like the green tones you've used, help make it look more interesting... the body looks kinda buff...lol
davincipoppalag (Jun 27, 2004)
Nice sketch (ing). Maybe darken up the background to make the face stand out more..it's hard to see the whole thing
emmamommalag (Jun 27, 2004)
Interesting picture. I, also, like the green shading and agree that it needs a darker background.
Gigge (Jun 27, 2004)
Hehe, yeah I cheated on the background. I just used this sketch to test a bunch of stuff I hadn't done while doing all those portraits....an older woman, someone facing left, and drawing without a reference. But, I hadn't studied bodies, so....I guess I did use a reference...a mirror for the 'buff' shoulders that don't fit with the head. Thanks, Sal. ;D |

I googled this image, but am omitting the link and the name to protect the innocent. It's not his fault the sketch turned out this way.
davincipoppalag (Jun 25, 2004)
Do you know the person?
Gigge (Jun 25, 2004)
No, do you?
davincipoppalag (Jun 25, 2004)
Nope..Just wondered because you said you googled it.. I guess I thought you put in a name to get this..
emmamommalag (Jun 25, 2004)
I like it, Gigge. Very nice job on his hair and he has a nice smile that shows in his eyes. |

Tried drawing a random person using a frame, http://www.anticz.com/anticz.htm. Not as painful as I thought it would be.

emmamommalag (Jun 23, 2004)
Nice one, Gigge.

Since I didn't fit all four objects (or even three) on the first draw. I decided to do a part 2.Part two of the first exercise from http://www.anticz.com/drawing1.htm.
davincipoppalag (Jun 20, 2004)
Nice forms.. good shading. |

This is based on an old photo of my grandmother.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 17, 2004)
This is very nice, it reminds me of folk art or something.
emmamommalag (Jun 17, 2004)
Yes, it does look kinda folk artish. You're doing good so far. Pretty grandma. :)
davincipoppalag (Jun 18, 2004)
She's pretty. You're doing a good job making it look like an old photo.
Rosemary (Jun 18, 2004)
