Sundial/tombstone of a girl named Alwyn who died at age 3 in November of 1938
The inscription reads "Turn youre face to the sun, and the shaddowes will fall behind you."

I know this is a strange subject for a piece of art, but something about this was so appealing to me... I found it sad, beautiful, and a little bit eerie at the same time. The way it was all covered with moss, the beautiful blue stone that was carved so carefully, and the strange way things were spelled... I don't know.. it made me wonder about the little girl, and I just liked it alot.

Good one DBA..I like the rendering of the stone base to this. We have a number of very old cemetaries here with all kinds of odd inscriptions. They are very cool. I have one of those shell lights.. it's like a clamshell with a frosted pearl in side and there is a light that changes colors softly inside the pearl. It's a cool night light.
emmamommalag (Apr 20, 2004)
This is really cool. I love to tramp around in old cemeteries.. interesting reading there.
thug (Apr 21, 2004)
this is wonderful, I like old grave markers too. Some of them give you the creeps. One night back in the 80's my friends and I played frizbee golf in a cemetary at night with glow in the dark Frizbes. that was a bit creepy too
laurael (edited Sep 11, 2004)
My sister and I used to go to this really old, small cemetery, way on top of this hill down the road from where we lived, to read the grave markers (it was a spooky feeling being the only ones around and seemed to draw us in every time). One day, we stumbled upon this grave marker for a baby and I remember feeling so sad reading the words on it. It was awhile ago though, I can't remember them, but this reminds me of that...
edit, again...I got so caught up in the story that I forgot to tell you what a great job you did with the picture! Great job!

Help out with my Animation: Call for Voice Actors
marcello (edited Apr 20, 2004)
To all, We want you to donate your voice to us. Also, if you want to help fix up the screenplay... or come up with a title perhaps? Eh? As some of you know, and most of you can tell, I have been rather busy the past few weeks and not as active as I used to be... There is a good reason: school. But more specifically: I am working with a friend, Brad on a joint animation project (2d and 3d mix) for the Maya class here. It is the largest and most involved animation w...

Very nice VV.. the right eye looks a bit small in relation to the left but its nice.
Kasha (May 1, 2004)
oi! I cannot believe I missed this one. I was scanning through ur gallery and I saw this one and forgot to comment! (thanks by the way. I feel so accomplished when I realize I've inspired someone! )

comment: I like the smooth brush strokes you've applied to this portraiture. The skin tones are great and I love the purple highlights. The hairstyle is awesome and has that lovely 'woosh' effect that I always favor.Like Davinci said, the eye on the left looks a tad bit smaller in relation to the other. It's tedious sometimes to get the eyes working, I think everyone seems to have a hard time with that, eventually it'll kick in. The background is totally something I would do. Very painterly. Overall, fantastic job!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (May 1, 2004)
Very Kasha-like. :) She definitely has one of the coolest, uninhibited styles going around here. It's probably such a leap from mine I don't think I'd know where to begin. You even got close to the palette she uses. Shows you are very observant and insightful.

Is it just me or does it look like a hand reaching in through the window and grabbing his head? lol I like Dead's idea.. and maybe a mouse gnawing on a bread crust just under the edge of the bed.
davincipoppalag (Apr 20, 2004)
I think a pale arm laying across the floor from under the bed.... like he's wondering what to do with the body..

Hey thanks you all! :D Right on davinci, and yeah DBA, you're right, I think it's cheecks shouldn't be quite so round like that and that ear should start higher.
Knockoff (Apr 20, 2004)

I drew this very sad pic just to show what happened to me earlier...(I am too busy at the moment to make a good one)
I took the dog out for his umpteenth leak of the day, and I was standing in the middle of the yard, when a purple finch comes fluttering all around me! It then landed on my stomach for about 5 seconds, then flew to a nearby tree and just looked at me for the longest time... It's paying off, all these bird drawings I've been doing, I'm tellin' ya!

Lol Lori.. from the look on your face here.. I think that might have been a goose! hee hee hee
thug (edited Apr 19, 2004)
Damn, how come I only attract bugs? I can tell lots of stories about me beating my own ass trying to get a bug off of me, but never a bird. I also attract the strangest people in line at the grocery store too (fyi). Love the picture, you are a trip Lori!
laurael (Apr 19, 2004)
It must have been tellin' ya to draw a finch next.
I only seem to attract bees...it all started when I was 5 and got stung on the top lip. No matter where I am or what I'm doing...bees. One even 'dive bombed' me over and over, to the point that I had to scram for the back door and couldn't get back into the house fast enough, lol.
LovelyLori (Apr 19, 2004)
lol... you are all so funny... dba, yes, you MUST draw your experience, lol... that's too hilarious, I think I would crap my pants if that happened to me!, this was shocking enough.... When I told my father and stepmother about this, they said they think it might be the same finch that let them get about a foot away from it the day before, and they were talkin' to it and all, and it just sat there lookin' at 'em.... weird l'il thang... and poor laur... dive bombed, lolllll
