This is fantastic work. It is my favorite of yours probably. I love how it is so busy but still connected by color. This is very fun to look at.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Sep 4, 2005)
This is one of my favorites in the whole contest. I usually know exactly why I like something, but with this one I don't even want to complicate my enjoyment of it by trying to analyze it. It's so childlike and carefree. Well, there it is. That's why I like it so much.
OwynD (Sep 4, 2005)
I dont like it and i dont know y it seems too sinister for my taste, very colourful tho. i had a full size pic of the monkey i knew i should have stuck it on Ebay, damn, it went in the bin when i cleared my car out damn shame

She walked into her room and sat on her bed with a sigh and started to draw. Suddenly, she heard static. Instinct told her to look towards the TV... but nothing was there, not even a snowy screen. She began to panic, because the static kept getting louder and louder until it was too loud to bear. And just when she thought she would break down and scream and cry...

...it all stopped.

She lay in her bed, curled up on her side while taking deep breaths. What was that all about? Where did the noise come from? And as she was about to dismiss it as imagination...

"Hi."

She instantly looked up at the sound of the sweet, child-like voice. Her eyes landed upon the television in the corner, and she screamed...

(Sorry for the long description... and yes, this WAS my nightmare.)

Holy shit! i didnt see the girl at first and it creeped me out when i did see it
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Sep 4, 2005)
Reminds me of the movie "White Noise".... very scary.
Gigandas (Sep 4, 2005)
It reminds me of "The Grudge," where the woman is scared to death being by herself, so she runs to her bedroom and turns on the TV to comfort herself. After turning on the TV, what comes on is like a regular show with some woman looking straight forward talking when all of a sudden, the TV goes bad and twists this woman's face into a pretty creepy looking face and gets stuck that way. That was probably the only scary part of that movie though :P.

oooo freaky, if i was u id be glad it was just a nightmare cos spirits are known to show themself in tv's a lot of the time heres a couple:

I dreamed about this guy maybe three times, then blessedly stopped... in the dreams I'd be walking along this boardwalk, through a forest. I knew where I was going, I knew he was there, he scared me to death but I went anyways. I could never see him clearly. I always seemed to be looking at him out of the corner of my eye. He was this fat old rich man-- he had a Mad Pierrot vibe, I'm sure that was an influence-- who had an enormous estate in the middle of the woods. He always wanted me to come visit him. Everything felt so sinister. I don't know why I kept going back. Usually in the dreams my dog would be with me. For protection, maybe? In one dream I somehow got separated from her and left alone with him, and I panicked and started screaming for her.

I feel I need to give this tutorial its props for helping me with the boards, even though in the end I basically did it a different way and just sort of took influences from the tutorial. Ah well.

Phoebus Hupza and Sheila, Sludick.

(Hey a creature is anything that's created, right?)
Sludick is the plural form. Phoebus' main job is to catch fish for feeding his wife and himself. His tail functions as a rudder, and his powerful hairy lower legs are used in running and jumping around(An excercise he performs often when he plays with the bunnies) and engineered much like those of a kangaroo to help him to avoid mines. His large toes are webbed helping him to swim faster to avoid the alligator. His head of heavy hair helps to protect him from flying coconuts. His wife, a female sludick has fairy-like wings. she has no trouble avoiding mines at all, as she never sets down on a spot which Phoebus has not already scouted. She loves to cradle the bunnies and coo to them in a singing sort of voice. Both are highly energetic... more if I get more time... I've got to move quick I hope to finish before 10.

Sure looks like a creature to me...the idea of this contest was to use imagination..and you sure did that!
DinoFlorist (Sep 3, 2005)
I can make the people out and it looks like it would be really great! It is too bad that you didnt have a chance to refine this further before the deadline, but you should still finish it even though it is not eligible to 'win.' Just please dont have it update into the newer contest (uncheck the update revision box).
Coolsoft (Sep 3, 2005)
Unfortunately didn't get back until it was too late to do anything, but I guess I'll try to finish this up later.

He gets animals to come close to the water so the alligator can eat them.
He is a meat eater and He lives off scraps that the alligator leaves behind.
He has big sharp teeth and he is very fast.

The soft blurry colours you do are excellent, along with the subtle scratchy lines.

Nice Derrick, I like the soft feel of the picture. I also like you description of the Water Walker. Neat idea :]

I shall call it... the Macack!
This carnivorous creature navigates by gliding with large, expandable membrane protuding from it's sides. It's body sturcture is slim and light allowing it to glide at high speeds for significant distances on a strong current of wind. It's large pair of primary eyes has excellent vision, the second pair of anntena are highly sensitive organs used to judge wind speeds, altitude and scent.
The Macack feeds exclusively on small ground dewlling animals, which it can swallow whole with it's large, vertically aligned mouth.

eek!!! I'm scared >_< lol I love how there's movement in the BG.
davincipoppalag (Sep 2, 2005)
Jeez...now I gotta look up when I walk through there too..good idea HK
DinoFlorist (Sep 3, 2005)
the blurred background gives the impression of this thing moving very quickly. I know that the white path or maybe river is there to frame it, but I'm not sure that is the best way to compose the picture. Still, nice, creative idea.

The jello body is genious! That is a perfect solution to mines! He also has a very evolved defense mechanism, lol.

Just a sketch Idea for one of the creatures living in this forest clearing. The tiptoe mimics the carnivorous stemmed vase plant, and can also change color to match its enviroment. This creature actually follows the groups of monkeys because when they throw the coconuts down they hit areas where there are no mines making it safe to move around. plus their long legs keep their main body away from blasts. Their favorite food is rabbits. Although they will eat anything when hungry.
The long beaks are used to cut open and eat from the carcass, using it's long tubular tongue. They also have phospherous extensions on their heads to repel light sensitive plants, and attract small animals drawn by light. patient hunters yet fast moving when attacking or retreating to safety.
It also carries the marking of the poisonous raithpiller to deter attacks from birds and plants. O.K. I'm done. Again sorry it is only a sketch , but I really wanted it that way anyway. Just throwing an idea out there. :}

Well decided to try and color it, did a background ,but the applet froze and I had to submit to try and work on it some more and ran out of space. luckily I hid the background so you could still see it. To get more space to color it isn't needed. it was originally supposed to be a sketch anyhooo. :} By the way Davi, it's GIGER. Thanks for the comments.:}
HunterKiller_ (Sep 1, 2005)
Nice alien/insectoid creature.
Sai_Wo (Sep 2, 2005)
It's a shame you aren't going to color it. It looks really cool.
DinoFlorist (Sep 3, 2005)
That is a very scary one! Man he freaks me out more than any other picture on 2draw probably. My most feared enemy is the spider (though my most bitter rival is the yellow jacket)!

I don't draw monkeys often.

Hee hee. My favorite part is the prissy little tail. "Plants can't eat me cause I can wave my prissy little tail in their face!" ^^

Anways, these cats live in trees. Born in trees, die in trees, rarely leave the trees aside from getting water. They brace themselves against the trunks and latch on with retractable claws during particularly hard gusts of wind.

-snicker- The pansy-tail.

Edit: I forgot to mention how awesome this contest idea was. There's not many things I enjoy more than thinking up odd critters.

Good job! I am glad that you had fun with this picture. I looked through your user board, and this is at least one of your top two. I like your creative idea, it is very different from most! Lol at your previous comment; your monkey looks hilarious.
renire (Aug 30, 2005)
This is a very good one. But the thing that worries me most, Is when this creature climbs down from the trees to get some water, the crocodiles may eat him/her! How will your creature prevent this from happening? Other than this, I love your drawing! ^_^
silvercoyote (Sep 3, 2005)
@Derrick: Ha ha, yeah. We should get the poor thing a daiquiri
@Dino: Thanks. I put alot of effort into this one, where most of my stuff on here is just doodles. And most of my stuff on here is really really really old. And yeah, I like the monkey too. ^^ The entire time I drew him I was humming the "Curious George" theme song. *snicker*
@Renire: Well, they have claws.... Plus I thought long and hard about that problem, when the solution hit me. They'll get eaten. There has to be something to kill one of them off now and then, otherwise they'll dominate the ecosystem, deplete their food supply, thus killing themselves off and the other species that depended on the same game that they ate. If you create a super creature that's invincible, it'll eventually starve. Check out nature, you'll find that everything has to have something that kills it.

Well. First things first. The writing on the prompt was amazing, as was the idea as a whole--thanks so much, DinoFlorist!
This was the second entry I did; the first one I worked on for four and a half hours, only to have the applet go crazy on me (look at the front leg!), killing everything I had done. Here's the link.
This little guy has eight skinny, double-jointed legs. The first pair have an extra joint, and are usually carried folded over on its back. All of them are tipped with the claws you can see, made of three claws that close into points. When the winds come around, it can stick all of the claws into the ground, and extend them to give it more leverage. These also come in useful when catching rabbits and fish, and to jab at the alligator. The many legs distribute its weight over many small points of ground and so help to avoid the mines. It is camouflaged, and so is invisible from the creature-eating plants. As for the monkeys and their coconuts, well, lucky for them, these thingies taste pretty good. Can't be helped with that big body and skinny legs.
I'm really happy with the expression on the fish.
Edit: Compression killed this. And, eew, there are ugly lines on the left side that I didn't notice before.

Very creepy looking thing. Wouldn't want 'that' crawling on me. Love the eye.
DinoFlorist (Aug 30, 2005)
This is a very nice composition and work as a whole. The picture is very fluid and complementary. After I looked at the habitat I made them live in, I thought of a spider legged creature too (also to avoid mines)!
