First You both need some decent shading. Do not use the light/dark (dodge/burn) tools.
Try using water color, and use lighter and darkers colors.
Second Try cleaning the lineart up a bit. (Clean and concise pictures are soo much easier to see, and are a lot more admirable.) Using layers and water color for lineart is a good way to go.
Last but not least, add a decent background. (This isn't the worse collab background i've seen, but this could be a lot better) Try adding objects, landscapes, ect.
