wingz38 (Aug 30, 2005)
Haven't done oekaki in a while. I have always had trouble with shadow and highlight and thought I should develop a style that didn't rely on them. This is also my first piece on this board. I thought I would try a character some anime fans might be used to seeing. Wanted your opinions on whether or not I should move on here or still be at the beginners board.

Thanks in advance.

This really isn't finished...but because I know I'll never go back to it; finished it is, sorta.

I really like the color interactions on this piece, and the texture of the background. Its a very curious piece, finished or otherwise.
HunterKiller_ (Aug 29, 2005)
What a happy family. That pencil sharpener face guy is lol.
TaCO (Aug 29, 2005)
I love love this.
The colors, the expressions, and the whole composition of this pic is simply beautiful.

You have always been so good, but the new stuff you have been doing is my favorite yet.

Well I was trying to get the shape of things down(hense the sillouhette) and I could not get it to turn out quite how I wanted it to. I think that I still managed the feel I wanted though.
Not sure if this should be here or beginner-either works for me

the neon makes it intense-good use of color. The whole shadow thingy's kinda cool too
LisaAnne (Aug 18, 2005)
I'd say its pretty good...I mean I think that there could be some refinement (but who doesn't need to refine their work). I love the whole idea though...kind of the "energies" colliding. Also there is a little bit of question of sex (as in gender), which I find very interesting.
Gollywoggers (Aug 19, 2005)
There is? Uh the one on the bottom is a girl and the one on the top is a guy. There should be no gender confusion. He is more calm passionate-hense the calmer color and she is more intense hense her position and color.
LisaAnne (Aug 30, 2005)
Well I assumed that the bottom was female, but I also second guessed, because of the colors, as well as the face. In general people associate or use (not trying to say this is the only way obviously), but Reds, purples, pinks are feminine, and blues, greens masculine. Even if I didn't interpret this piece the way you intended I still like it.

With the whole "Harp of Silence" idea, wouldn't it be a little more to the meaning if it didn't have strings? Or if the strings were all snapped or made of bone or something like that. Very nice work, anyways.
HunterKiller_ (Aug 27, 2005)
Having no strings would be a clever idea but according to the the thesaurus, 'silence' is under the word 'death', therefore, this is a harp that brings death when played. Basically, itself is not silent, but it renders any souls silent who were unfortuante enough to hear it.
KaykuyoAkabane (Aug 30, 2005)
Wholy cow! This is so...Wow. Its amazing! Really! Wow. Wow, Can I say Wow? Keep up the amazing work!! <3

Very nice...pointilism....I like that your mind has to fill in the gaps. Your work overall is wonderful though.
Zack (Aug 27, 2005)
actually, this is stippling, not pointillism.
davincipoppalag (Aug 27, 2005)

Looks pretty good. Have any ideas for it? Also, I'd like to know what you do for a technique. I'm still learning and would like to know a few new tricks.
xswirvex (Aug 24, 2005)
well from what i seen, it looks like you were blurring stuff which doesnt make stuff look good, and using oranges that made it look one solid color, theres more than one color to the orange, white, brown yellow etc.. and it also loooks like you used a pencil tool, which made stuff jagged. so i used a lower opacity & flow to make it smooth.
also with your wings you made them flat and smooth into a shape like if it was perfect, when i looked at your reference i didnt see perfect edged wings, its un-natural looking. i dont use lascaux, so im sure other people know other techniques, i find lascaux harder to paint with.
AuschwitzBurns (Aug 26, 2005)
Ok. Thank you. I'll try messing with a few of these things. Oekaki is a bit weird for me. I like the zoom tool.
GOODBYE (Aug 29, 2005)

This looks cool. The eyes look good, but the nose seems a little off to the right. Other than that, nice work.

ohh this is looking a lot smoother than alot of your stuff. I dunno, but the circles from the light are kind fo distracting for some reason. Maybe if they were on the other side.
TaCO (Aug 29, 2005)
O.O You have a cool style!!!!!!!
p3ndragon (Aug 29, 2005)
I'm totally digging it, but the only thing i would suggest is making some of the hair strands thinner.
KH44N (Aug 29, 2005)
Damn... This is amazing! The two circles of light on the left are a little distracting in my opinion. Other than that, excellent work!
