Based on Eugène Delacroix’s painting La Liberté guidant le peuple ("Liberty Leading the People"), the symbol of the revolution that ended feudal rule in France and is regarded as the symbol of the French Revolution of 1789.

Interesting take on the original painting and I like the concept behind your poster. Where are her nipples? They're not easy to spot in the original painting but I assure you, the nipples are very much there. This is "Liberty" you've painted, to not paint her nipples seems to contradict what she stands for. I don't think I want to be part of a nippleless revolution.

Great entry! I'm with Klox...nip us please

Bwahahahahahahahahahaha

I wanted to keep it family-oriented so I made it more suggestive/impressionistic. If this one issue upsets everyone so much, I'll ask the moderator to delete it from the contest.
Zack (Dec 30, 2007)
A less awkward solution would be to draw her top high enough to cover the aforementioned nipples. However, I must voice my disagreement that Delacroix's original masterpiece is not family-friendly.

Please jpjp, do not ask a moderator to remove it from the contest. I agree about it needs a nipple, we are all born with them, so what is the harm in showing them? Kids these days see more guns and violence than honest naked flesh. It should be the other way around. A nipple/bare breast is much more family friendly than most stuff you see.
PolythenePam (Dec 30, 2007)
nipple, no nipple, whatev. Although personally I'm pro-nipple. It's the font that's letting you down.
Kloxboy (Dec 30, 2007)
jpjp: We were merely making suggestions, no one is upset and no one wants you to delete your entry. Zack makes a good point, bare-breasted women pictured in masterpieces such as 'Liberty Leading the People' are meant to be enjoyed by everyone, nipples and all. Be it families, children or nuns, no one should be banned from seeing art, especially masterworks.

Side note: It would seem the US is suffering from a puritan-hangover, with sex being the greatest victim. There are people out there who can't even say vagina without feeling guilty, this leads me to believe our society is bit out of whack.
PolythenePam (Dec 30, 2007)
vagina!
Sweetcell (Dec 30, 2007)
Alright, I think the nipple thing should be dropped. This is a contest board, how the artist portrays something is their business and will be judged on how well their entry followed the theme and this follows the theme. If anyone has anymore issues with this they can contact me through private memo. I hope jpjp reconsiders and leaves this on the boards.

I hope so too.. it's not important to the work to have that added at all.. it's a fine entry January 7: Congrats on placing second!!g
