Congratulations Zep! " listen to my heartbeat..." is awarded first place for Contest Week 43: E.T. Boy Revolution. What I love about this piece is that it succeeds on so many levels, it's a truly -complete- piece. I see style, skill, originality, critical thought, innovation, effort and other elements that are commonplace among great craftsmen. Zep is famous for using symbolism and juxtaposing images in his paintings, leaving the viewers thinking and curious, I think this piece is exemplary of that quality.
Things that made me think:
- I see a cat and dog amazingly morphed into the face, which lead me down this thread of associations; "fighting like cats and dogs", opposites, enemies, black and white, war
- I see what I thought was a profile portrait of Vladimir Lenin on the main figures forehead, which lead me to these associations; communism, socialism, Karl Marx, Russia, The Cold War, revolution
- I see a rainbow on the figures shoulder, which lead me to these associations; gay, gay pride, activism, civil rights, liberalism, sexual liberation
- I see what I thought was a "revolution of thought" around the characters head. Our good friend E.T. Boy appears in one of the "thoughts", which looks really awesome, those glasses are hard to miss. ;)
- I see a ribbon being held that appears to have the word "flower" repeated on it, I thought that might indicate "flower power" or freedom of thought, intriguing stuff.
It was fun to take the journey of interpreting this piece, trying to figure out just what Zep is telling us. Is it something specific? Perhaps it's just a juxtaposition of ideas to get us thinking? oO
This piece is also skillfully executed and well composed. The color composition is electric; the pinks, the reds and turquoise were a beautiful choice for this piece. And this piece is immediately recognizable as Zep's art, I think his style is the most consistent and well developed of all the artists styles on 2Draw.
Well done Zep, you continue to amaze us, much appreciated.
wow...thanks a lot
:)
it´s always amazing what people see...i like you get the Lenin "touch", thanks for all the words man, certainly more than that i deserve.
Well thanks to Klox this time I really looked and finally understand this piece. (sometimes it's hard to understand some symbolism) I knew this would win. Congratulations Javier. Well deserved.
