I'm calling this finished before i completely fail my degree from 2drawing too much. Owe a debt to Artiste really.. i read about her technique using lines and thought i'd give it a go. So after 13 hours of anally placing lines, moving lines, erasing lines, i've ended up with a reasonable portrait. so i'm pretty chuffed.
And chuffed you very well deserve to be. What a great drawing, and it helps that I'm a fan of the actor as well. Great capture of classy casualness. Really smooth job.
This is so amazing, Sir Ian McKellen is a wonderful actor. You did him justice, those hands are amazing as well as his face (with that pink nose and impish smile you'd think he'd been in the grog) but what strikes me is the hair, a hard thing to do. It's brilliant.
Where did artiste remark on line drawing, it's something I'd love to try.
Thanks for all the comments. ya damn straight he's an awesome actor.. screw Gandalf.. Gods and Monsters anyone?
i canny seem to find the comment where Artiste reveals her (it is a her isnt it?) tricks of the trade.. something about lines bein used almost exclusively, keeping opacity down (around 100 or so).. being able to control exactly where u wanna draw.. just give it a go. Everyone should try usin lines! :D its mouse compatible which was the main advantage for me
