Music can inspire your subject (Violin is one of the best musical instruments ! ^^).
It's a girl playing violin in front of her young brother.

Ok, that's the first lineart, tomorrow I'll try to do the final ...
Gosh, why do I have to draw this idea ... It'll take hours to make it !
But that's what I like ! ^^
Soshell (Jan 19, 2004)

sal (Jan 19, 2004)
really nice line art.... looks great so far...
ky (Jan 19, 2004)
That it can, my good friend. -has a music-inspired picture waiting-

I really like your lineart. It's so well composed. And let's face it, your colouring is really great, too. It's so straight and thick that it totally matches your lineart. I can't wait for the colour. Maybe we could do a collab sometime...
Childlike_Vampire (Jan 19, 2004)
Very spiffy pic, I love the little boys face the best. I can't wait to see it finished, I'm sure it will be awesomely.
RabidMalikFanGirl (Jan 19, 2004)
Aie! It's like Furubura!! Except backwards... ^^ Momiji on the violin and little sister Momo watching. Brings tears to my eyes, that it does.

Beautiful lineart... I can't wait to see this finished.

Ok, I cleaned lineart for the characters, next step is the background (it shouldn't take long so I think I'll finish the lineart and begin coloring next time.)
BTW, thanks for the comments ... And Ky, I'd like to make a collab with you ! :)
strangeoid (Jan 20, 2004)
Ben, this is beautiful! Whatever you do with it, this is definitely a wonderful piece.

Ok I finished the lineart and the coloring.
I used warm colors in order to make a "late afternoon" affect.
Last part is shading and lighting ...
I feel sleepy with this pic... :p
Maiko (Jan 22, 2004)
is he kicking that poor girl in the ass? OO
very nice picture ^^ you've improved a whole lot
the violin needs a chin rest and it's not rounded on the
bottom, it's kinna flat. sry >>; i play violin and i get
peeved when it's drawn wrong *bowbow*
LightBen (Jan 22, 2004)
Thanks Wasil, I'll change that next time ! :)
And no, He's not kicking her in the ass. ^^ Shading will be the answer ! ^u^
marcello (Jan 22, 2004)
google image search is your friend for stuff like that. It's always good to look at a few photos of objects when they're more complex or you haven't drawn them before.

Some suggestion for the late afternoon affect, it might be nice, instead coloring the outside as if the sun had already set, add some bright spots of orange sunlight and long shadows.

Also, though it's probably too late to change this, is your intention for the window to just be a hole in the wall? Usually when there's woodwork like that, you'll also have a frame, or some kind of 'grooves' to hold the window itself, if it slides up and down or if it swings outwards, you'll need some kind of 'equipment.'

Looks good so far, I love your character designs, very european. and rightly so, I suppose. ;-)
Maiko (Jan 22, 2004)
eck, sorry ^^;;;
now i get it, he's sitting on the ground

I'd like to thanks Marcello for letting me use more than 500kb (I moved to the advanced board, sorry for the trouble ^^;;)
Well, it's finished, I hope you'll like it ! :)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jan 24, 2004)
I strongly agree with Marcello's suggestions. Also, if that is a mirror on the left wall, it would be reflecting something, and doesnt even contain reflections of the wall color opposite. If it were a window, it would partially continue the other window scene.

Other than that, this is wonderful composition and the subjects and colors are very well executed. It also has alot of feeling - You should consider illustrating children's books!
oversoul_trump (Feb 29, 2004)
Looks really good, I like the way you did the hands.
marcello (Feb 29, 2004)
Well, I am assuming what you think is a window on the left with the clouds is probably a painting on the wall. Kind of disappointing that he did not fix the violin, but one can only do so much, I suppose.
LightBen (Mar 3, 2004)
The "window" on the left is actually a painting ^^.
And for the violin ... I think I'm not gonna touch this picture as I won't be able to draw a better violin ...
I should practice drawing musical instruments on paper instead ... For my next big picture :)
