the man who took this photo walked away and abandoned the child to the vulture. I cried when I saw this photo

I agree, he won a pulitzer prize for it and committed suicide 3 weeks afterward, the child was trying to craw to a United Nations feeding station when he took the photo

how do you know so much about this guy?
pawillie (Feb 4, 2011)
because the story was on the internet

The picture was taken by Kevin Carter for the New York Times...this was a young Sudanese girl and he did indeed leave her there..and killed himself three weeks later....his act of ''don't interfere'' is even more heinous than the shape the country was in....this picture was taken in 1993....

thank you very much BMW, I don't understand how someone could do that. I guess he could not live with himself afterwards

Joao Silva's account of the incident was enlightening. Carter took alot of criticism for the picture. The witness accounts that the child was left alone for a moment while her mother collected food. The vulture was attracted by the same commotion that led the mothers out of their huts and camera view (the plane landing with food). Moved by the sight of all the children's suffering Carter took many photos but only the one was published. His suicide note mentioned debts, that he was depressed by the carnage he witnessed and the recent death of his friend and fellow photographer.

that is a very different side of the story, thanks

With nature (animals) I can somewhat understand the do not interfere standpoint. But as a human being walking away from iminent death is a crime.
lori (Feb 5, 2011)
Agreed. You've been doing some great stuff lately pawillie, does that mean you're feeling better?
