It's not fair to ask how you can constructively criticise this picture. Just because it's a different style doesn't mean you can't constructively criticise it. Art shouldn't have any rules or boundaries, and that goes for any style.

Either way, it's a picture by Zappo. I don't dislike anything of his.

Sorry about the dense text - I'll work on that. I didn't know what the "+/-" was for - I'm still trying to learn how to best use the site.

I'll work on my formatting, but I hope the comment itself was okay; the main goal was to offer what useful comments I can. :) I hope I achieved that, at least.

yes it does mean "I" cant constructively criticise it. maybe you can ky...*shrug

How can you tell the size of the picture while you are drawing?
Look (Jan 25, 2004)
Um, I feel so terribly sorry about this, but I'm such a newbie here. I did a drawing, spend lot of time on it, and submitted it. Then realize I cannot revise it because I go over the space limit. Then a kind moderator gave me more space for me to revise it. So i tried to merge the layers and hope that would reduce the size and then drew a little more on it. Then today, I decide to take a look at it and I realize the size wasn't reduced, it's even more, way more than it should be. I'm totally f...

This one's my favorite, Zappo. And this blurry style is superb. Very smooth.

This is a very emotionally effective piece, despite its simplicity! I love the message in it. :)

alwaysLearning (Feb 16, 2004)
Woah, this is cool, but I don't think I want to stare at it too long this soon after a migraine!!! <LOL> My eyes keep trying to resolve that doubled eye into one. I *REALLY* like your style! This piece in particular has actually inspired me, there's something I'd like to try based loosely on this piece (though when I say loosely, I mean it - I don't copy people's styles without checking with them to see if they mind). Keep up the good work, and though I've said this before, the more I see of your work, the more certain I am: I can't wait to see where you go from here!

Psychadellic.....what a hippie word, just say cool, or awesome
alwaysLearning (Feb 16, 2004)
Hey, some of us see nothing wrong with "hippie words" -- and this piece merits the term, I think. It definitely depicts an altered perception of reality! All in all, a very cool, very promising work! Thanks for telling us a bit about the tools you're using, Zappo -- I haven't used Shi-Painter much, I'll have to try the pen, if it can contribute to results like this! :) Of course, the tool is nothing without the artistic vision, and I'd have to say that you have that, in spades! I really look forward to watching your work develop -- and this piece confirms it, I'll be bookmarking your gallery! :)

Ooh, this piece is nice! I agree with tigr3ss - the raven is very effective, despite some anatomical flaws - this piece was good enough to catch my eye from your user gallery, as I was browsing your work. I admit that I'm rather fond of ravens to start with, but this piece is good! Nice use of environmental imagery to practise with - I prefer not to see artists stick with copying other people's work, but I can see why you'd want to try your hand at this piece -- and it's really nicely rendered. :) I'd love to learn more about some of the techniques you're using. :)

Well, here it is - my second picture on this site. I now understand something about Lascaux Sketch, and I like the tool, but I'm still baffled by it in places... Still, it's a step, and I think the fishy is cute. It's based, vaguely, on a guppy, but mostly it's just swimming around in my brain. At least it's got plenty of room in there right now... if it can abide the whistling sound of the wind blowing through... <LOL>

Well, I can't edit this piece (which I just now tried to do in order to reduce the amount of space used), and I don't know what else to do; so... <sighs> ...unless advised otherwise, I'm going to delete it, in order to stop violating the space limit per image. I'm going to give this a couple of hours and see if I get any guidance from a moderator as to what to do, but failing that, the fishy (ack, children's books are taking over my vocabulary) will swim into history on my online sketchbook page. <sigh> I'm really sorry about the space problem, folks. :(

Isn't there a way to check the amount of space that the file is taking before you allow the user to save the file, so that we *can't* get into this kind of trouble? I think it told me the size of the .PNG file (though I'm honestly not sure), but not the actual main file, the one that's violating the space limit -- and I always feel really awkward about creating a problem I didn't even know how to check for, much less how to avoid, prevent, remedy, anything. <worried look> Do I just create images and hope blindly that they're within the size limit when I'm done, and delete them if they're not, or is there something I can do to avoid this problem in the future?
marcello (Feb 10, 2004)
I wouldn't worry about it so much, 2draw isn't really about how many mb you're using... we shouldn't be running out any time soon.
alwaysLearning (Feb 10, 2004)
Well then, in that case, I think I'll just mark this piece as finished, since I can't edit it any more. I've set a tight limit on my undo history on Lascaux, and I think I'll try another piece and see if I can avoid these file size problems that way. Thanks!
marcello (Feb 11, 2004)
Actually you probably want to set it much higher... the default is pretty low. Undo size has nothing to do with what's sent to 2draw, that's just how much of your computer's ram is used to store undo information.

I like this! It's simple, but you've got the curve of the eye right, and the striations of the iris, both of which are often misrendered by new artists (myself included... <sigh>). <smile> This may not be your best work (in fact, I know it's not, as I saw it when visiting your gallery, after drooling over your dolphin and berries), but it's really eye-catching, and has a nice strong graphic quality to it. :)
