Great job axil :)

This is nice. It's really abstract and simple and just plain good and I want to drink some wine now.

Oooo. I love the way you've mixed the desaturated tones of the hat and her skin with the supersaturated colours of her lips, her kimono and the background. The hat is *ahem* well, dammit, amazing. Love the tension in the chin strap/skin and the way you've just managed to hide her eyes from the viewer...so we're always trying to peer up under the edge of the hat. Critiques? Hmmm. That gorgeous bouncelight underneath her chin makes me wish there was a tiny bit of shine on the skin of her cheek. But's that nitpicking. I love this.

It's insane how much subtle texture is in the skin here. I can't begin to imagine how to do this with lascaux sketch, and it'd still be incredible regardless of the medium.

Glad i wasn't there funny as it be i'd hate to become that innocent by-stander well atleast a by-stander that gets injured during all that, well you know how that story would go.

Tonight we have a succulent center cut prime envy covered in a light jealousy sauce served with a glass of our finest imported inspiration.

It's so effective to leave the hair and dress less detailed. One of my favourite painting styles--a mixture of impressionism and realism. When it works, as this does, I think there is no painting style more beautiful. Looking at these purples and orange/golds together is a sensory treat.

Yes, please, size 7 !/2. And, do they come in RED? Those patten leather highlights and the way you've done the floor make me giddy.

does anyone else click through the versions and ever think "this is probably as good as i could make it, or this is where i'd leave it if i was doing it." it would probably be version 1 on this for me. i really don't have the patience to make things this good :):)

staci did a series of face pics, you might like to compare or something.

SYTHE (Feb 6, 2006)
Next you'll paint Willies right ear, eventually we'll see his whole face. This is great, I love the attention to detail.

bravo! I meant to comment on this earlier, but when I saw it I was in a school computer lab and some people started giving me the weird eye :) I love the expression and feel you captured Artiste!

Simply lovely to look at. Clean, elegant, sensual. The choice of monotone allows you to effortlessly concentrate on the subject without having to subconciously process too much visual information. The detail in the hair sets it all off. Full range of light to dark executed well, would like to have seen a couple more of the darker tones in places.... no, on second thougt, that might take away from it. Really very nice.
davincipoppalag (Jun 5, 2006)
That was a great edit, Rich. The coloration really warmed this up beautifully. Nice to see you drawing

I have been looking at windmills all my life, but I never realized till painting this how interesting the design really is... it's simplistic, but complicated in a way - really a cool thing. Too bad they are slowly disappearing.

(I never would have had the patience to do this in the old Lascaux, the line tool working well makes alot of things possible now)

Thanks everybody!

Frootcake: I could try out shi. I'll do my next painting in that. I'm a children's book illustrator,
and my agency needed a painting of a 5 yr. old girl, shoulders up for an ad. And I procrastinated
too much and the deadline was yesterday! I figured I could do a quick painting here.
So, I needed it to shrink down to 300dpi for print (that's why its so huge).

All your comments are reassuring, because I was afraid this wouldnt cut it.... looking
at it now I can see that the hair kinda sucks, but oh well.
LisaAnne (Apr 26, 2006)
