I'm new here, just got on, and I just don't understand these tools. Some I recognize, but what the hell does layering mean? And antialiasing, and...it's too confusing. Why can't there be an explanation on what the tools do? And why can't I save and come back to it, like the site says I can? It's too much, I think I may go back to YouDraw. Simple yes, some would even say crude, but it's easy to understand. Can someone please help me. I don't know if I'll stay on for long.

Layering means you are putting on different layers of work in a picture. Picture clear sheets of plastic. On the top sheet would go lineart, on the middle sheet would go coloring, and on the bottom sheet would go a background. The lineart (on the top layer) nestles over the coloring (on the layer below it), and both of those layers are covering the background. This way, you may color without having to worry about ruining your lineart.

Antialiasing is a term for softening the pixels around a line so that it appears smoother. However, this term only comes up in the Lascaux applet, which is not recommended for beginning users. In fact, I don't recommend it at all.

I'm not going to post a tutorial about tools. Just experiment.

You can, in fact, save a picture and go back to it. After you've saved a picture, There is a special section in the upper right hand corner of the site called "MyStudio@2draw". All your unfinished pictures are stored here for your later use.

If you're using lascaux, just place your cursor over the tool and it will have a brief description.
Layering-- There has been some good tutorials made for layering. I believe you can find those somewhere on Zack's and Childlike Vampire's userboard.
Antialiasing-- click it, draw a line. You will notice that the line is smoother. feel free to mess around with the opacity.
Saving-- To come back to a saved/submitted drawing, click revise.

edit: I just checked out YouDraw, and I don't know why anyone would ever draw there. Two widths of pencil, and two widths of eraser. A drawing space less than 150x150. It's a cry for help.

It's a challenge to draw there using the limited tools. Some of the work is amazing considering. Look in the wiki, there is a tutorial about the tools in the Lascaux applet and I think that will be a good primer for you Sweetcell.

Go to google.com and type "oekaki" in the search box to find more paint boards than 2draw and youdraw. The best way to learn the paint programs is by using them. >:)
