Not much to say other than this is my first submission, and I really don't know how to use layers or any of the tools, lol, but just the basics, brushes and palate. oh well, it's a start anyway. the ref for this is compliments of justinblackstudios http://justinblackphotos.deviantart.com/art/Natural-2-29881444

Oh, about layers, I was frustrated when I first came here because like you I only had basic programs.
The way to think of layers is like sheets of glass or transparant paper one on top of the other. The bottom layer is the background, and every layer after that adds it own. One layer can be to sketch your design, then the next layer to ink, then to keep the lines use a lower layer to color. The more layers you use the more detail you can do and the more depth you get. And since each layer is seperate you don't muck up the others. You can add layers, merge them together, delete and a whole slew of stuff. If your unsure what things do place your mouse over an icon and a small button will pop up to tell you. I know I was wringing my hands wondering how they worked and no one really told me. The wiki is good to have but it can be confusing sometimes. Hope that helps.
You'll find the layer buttons and windows on the left of Lascaux, and in a little box on the bottom right of Oekaki Shi and Paint BBS. Just click on the layers box and the layers window will pop up.
