Ask Axil ..he does the best pottery .. these look like you have a good start shultsy, I like those window reflections oR just look at the ones in his gallery
Dearest Shults, I found the ref and as I look at it I see that you've got the colors pretty much right on. Now, the thing is, you need to see. I know it sounds silly but what I mean is really see. Look at your ref then at your drawing, back and forth like a two page flip book. It shouldn't take long for your eyes to recognize what the differences between the two. Don't be afraid to make radical changes if necessary. I know it sucks to have spent time on something only to have to redo it but it's worth it. I don't mean redoing the whole thing, just areas that don't quite match the ref. For example the white vase in the ref is taller and the curves more graceful as it thins toward the top. So far I've been speaking mostly of the shapes themselves because the shape of a shiny surface determines how and where it reflects light, do that has to be right first. Next comes the actual reflections. Look at the ref, I mean really look at it. The vase is reflecting just about everything in the room it is in. Look closely at the subtle differences in color and light and the minute details of the distorted reflections of the things in the reflections. Its as if the room were poured into the vase. You see? There are so many tiny little details in that brown vase if you "look into" it. Those make the reflection believable. You probably wont get them all and that's fine, it's not necessary. All you need is a representation in order to create the illusion. I want to also thank you for respecting my work enough to ask me for help. I don't know how much this helps, but it's all I can really do short of flying to wherever you are and spending a few years with you. You have desire and I believe you have enough raw talent to develop into the kind of artist you want to be, it's up to you to forge ahead and slowly but surely become. And this matter of "becoming" is never ending, that is to say you never arrive. The journey is the point, the destination is nothing but the end. Well, there you have a few of my thoughts. Good luck to you sir.
