Whenever I try to use Shi-Painter, I get horizontal lines on my board each time I scroll. This is annoying and messes up my work. Why does this happen?
I always prefered PaintBBS but the PaintBBS here don't have many layers like the one from PallidBBS http://pallid.unixdaemons.com/Oekaki/. Can we have that version too? I don't want to register to so many boards. |

I'm not sure why the lines appear but it happens to me as well. You should just draw with the Lascaux Sketch applet, it's a better applet and 2Draw is pretty much the best oekaki site on the internet. It's a win-win set up. :)

I get the line problem, too. It didn't used to happen, that was a long time ago, then it suddenly did. =\

I have it too everytime I draw here, and it really is a pest to draw like that! Made me switch to Lascaux and I'm happy about the switch. Only the lines in Shi are a bit thinner than in Lascaux, everything else is much nicer to use

For me, I just use PaintBBS. The 2 layer thing has never been a problem for me because when I'm done with a portion of the picture (say, the coloring) I unify it with the lineart to the first layer. then i can color the backround on layer 2 without having to stay out of the picture.
But in Shi, all you have to do is magnify then shrink your canvas and the black lines go away. (I think there was a post on this before.) |

Actually if you set it to float you wont get those annoying lines, or just if you click undo than redo thats a way of doing it if you hate float.

The lines don't do anything to your picture :0 so I just ignore them.
what I usually do though, is draw a random line and undo once in a while. |

enjoydotcom (May 27, 2007)
DK, I tried that and it still happens, I always make it float because my screen isn't that big.
Maiko, before I switched to Lascaux that's the trick I used too, to get them gone until the next time you scroll. |

My question is why does the line thing only happen here, ive used shipainter on other oekakis and it doesnt do that.

I think its a conspiracy, its set up that way to try and make you use lascaux...
Pure megalomaniacal madness and it all begins with Marcello |

I get them too, like shadows of the boxes you drag around. I used to press undo but I found the best way to clear the lines from your picture is make sure the layer box is visible then just either click the circle to make the layer disappeer and reappeer, or better yet just a quick drag on the layer and they dissapeer automatically and you don't have to worry about the undo button all the time. It's quicker.
But yes that's one of the reasons I like lascaux. |

Deformed (May 27, 2007)
Yeah. I have that problem as well. What Sweetcell does is the way I usually do it. Just hit undo.

Thanks for the reply everyone. I like PaintBBS cos it's simple without too many confusing tools/functions. all I wanted was a few extra layers to make things a little bit easier. But I guess I'll have to give Lascaux a try then :)

How do people even draw with Lascaux? DDDDX I can never manage to finish a picture with it.
I've always been a Shi Painter type. :'D I like the different brushes, especially watercolour 2~ |

I'm not proficient here with anything but Lascaux [it's what i taught myself to do digital art with]...and aside from that, i don't know how to use anything else except for a couple of paint programs i have on my computer, and i prefer lascaux to those. I have tested the other applets here, and there's no contest as far as i'm concerned... it's like looking in my paint box and choosing between a couple of cheap, old, frayed synthetic brushes that I didn't clean really well the last time I used them [the other applets] and then a brand new, expensive, soft sable brush [Lascaux] I mean, it's got it's few little glitches, but the pros far outweigh the cons to it.

At first I thought that lascaux was simpler too, as in not as many brushes, but i think it even has more brushes, including waterbrush (blend box). With Shi I've lost numerous paintings, that hasn't happened to me using lascaux (as of yet).
