OMG, Dave! This is really incredible. I never knew you had a portrait in ya! I think this must be the first real portrait that you have done that I have seen. Excellent. The background is very cool too. I love the colors you used in this, and I do agree about the eyes, but they are so hard to do. Eyes on my portraits are always different. Bravo!
I am sure it did take hours, I can't do a portrait in that amount of time. I know it is scary trying to fix things like that, but if it don't work out the way you want, just don't save it. It looks fine the way it is...actually Great the way it is. Good luck if you do attempt it. But if you don't...more power to ya for the great portrait as is!
I wouldn't bother messing with this anymore.. it came out better than the one I did, I think.. all the practice is paying off, Dave - god did I hate my hair that day though!
Thanks Barb..isn't it funny how you see this stuff a day or two after you do something...but when you've been working on it a while..you don't...at least I don't.
Thanks Anna...she's pretty isn't she.. faces are so hard to get right for me. I don't have it in me to do the eye over, so I'm gonna call this done and hope for better on the next one..
Wow! This is great! And to think, it was drawn by the man who "can't draw faces." So much for that hogwash. As for the eyes, I looked at your drawing and her photo side by side.. it's actually her right one that is out of whack.. needs to be raised very slightly and moved to her right slightly also.. just a little bit both ways. I'm looking forward to seeing you do more portraits.. how about your wife for the next subject?
I second the wife for the next portrait!!! Dave, this is awesome.....you have come a looonngg way! I just love the background!! As far as the eyes go...just keep practicing. I love this, even down to the little shiny earring! ((((Dave))))
Honestly, I think Lori's depiction of herself from this photograph was much better... the eyes are WAY off on this, her left eye is much too large and disproportionate. There is one thing worth mentioning, though... in the photograph her eyes somehow appear "blank"... emotionless... even though you got them off kilter here, you gave them expression, which is lacking in the photo.
hmmm... the eyes are the same now... I'll give you that much.
I wish I had the nerve to cut off all my hair like that. I haven't had mine cut for so long that it's almost as long as it was in high school.
Y'all worry about having hair WAY too much... most women don't care if you have hair or not. Well, there are some that do, but those women aren't worth being around anyway. Some of the sexiest, most desirable men I've ever known are bald. I'm glad you're happy that you have hair, though... whatever "floats your boat" :D
Bahhh...sorry, I had forgotten about your request till just now (and I had a feeling there was something I was supposed to do today, but couldn't remember).
From what I can see, I think the first few things you might wanna consider, are to work some light into the irises and the skin. Her eyes appear to be light enough, that you can easily separate the pupils from the irises. There's also more space between her eyebrows, and I think for that, it's just a matter of moving the left eyebrow, a little further to the left. A few minor things with the eyes may include pulling her lower eyelid up on the right eye (if you look at the photo, it's almost a flat horizontal line while you have it rounded), and pulling the eyelid down further over the outside corner of her left eye. You may also want to pull her mouth down further (maybe about, 1.5x the space you currently have there).
A lot of what I said may sound rather confusing as I'm typing this out at 3am, so if you have any questions, just let me know. I think you already have it looking like Lori here, good luck.

As for her left eye, it just needs to be smaller, less slanted and brought down and in just a tich. Keep it up Poppalag.

You should try switching between both versions, it's freaky cool. :)
