did you try using a grid? open the pic in something like psp and put a grid over it (there should be a view-> grid option somewhere) and set up the grid the wat you want it and then draw a grid over your canvas the same size, or as close as you can get to it. then with the layers you can sketch it in so you get the proportions right. =)
