I've been doing the whitetail "game management" muzzleloading rifle hunt for the State at the park here, and one night I helped the State park police and rangers track one of the hunter's deer through hundreds of yards of tall, dead grass. I'm not sure why his didn't go down immediately, we're shooting civil war "cannons"... mine had an exit wound bigger than Dallas. Anyway... that was my inspiration for this, and I didn't need a reference because I've seen this so many times after bowhunting that the image is burned into my mind. I didn't quite get the effect I wanted with the flashlight...I usually flare mine where there's a circle of light and no center point of light, and it was kind of foggy that night. I played with it long enough to lose my patience... but it was fun experimenting.

Playing around is all I have the energy for right now, but sometimes I think I should cut myself more slack and PLAY MORE here. Maybe later I'll feel like finishing the "full house" of paintings in my studio.

I've learned that drawing grass is a pain in the ass, but you did a great job making it look so real, nice work
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 16, 2007)
Hey, that rhymes... :) It's not the bestest thing I ever did draw, but thanks.
davincipoppalag (Jan 16, 2007)
Wow...really does look like the light from a flashlight on the grass..nice...
Kloxboy (Jan 17, 2007)
That's amazing. A very well done patch of realism, neat idea too.

I counted two sheep that Lori drew for me, and then at 5 am I figured I should be tired enough to go to bed, so I did, and since I have the sheep memorized, I counted those two by twos... like two four six eight ten sheep, and I did that until just a few minutes ago... it didn't work, because see, my sheep don't cooperate. They don't clear the fence, they get hung up in the barbed wire and they turn around and go the wrong way and it's just a big mess. So... I got up and went into the dining room and lit a cigarette, and I have a big picture window in there... and I'm looking out of it, and I'm still smoking...and I'm looking at how everything is all white and I'm thinking to myself in this matter of fact way... hmmm.... wonder how long it's been snowing? And then I put my cigarette out and turned to leave the room... and I stopped. I turned around again and looked out the window... It's snowing?

I hate winter.

I heard about it snowing in Texas and the first thing that popped in my head (well the first thing was I don't believe this) the second was OMG, Cindy's getting snow, she must be shocked and I wonder how she's coping? Snow.... in Texas. Like a late xmas present, unless your not used to it then it's more of a coal in your stocking sort of thing. Hope your dealing with it as best you can Cindy. You should have seen how people up here were freaking out a few years ago because it was nearly xmas and there was no snow on the ground. Not only did it not feel like xmas but people were getting a little tence with the warm weather. We were still walking around in light jackets with them wide open. Quite a surprise when we got our early present when it snowed xmas day. Just thought I'd share. :) You did a great job with the picture, but one would expect no less from you. Keep warm.

Most of the time it's like spring here on Christmas day, but I don't mind because I love the Grinch. It's been freezing rain and all cold and sloshy and yucky for days... at least today it was big, fat, fluffy snowflakes, and it stayed on the ground. Usually when it snows here it melts when it hits. It's so rare that people will use it as a "year marker".... like "Was that the year it snowed?" :) I'm just not much of a cold weather person, I'm a beach bum. I've been going outside and wiggling my toes in the snow... it's fun, but it just doesn't have the same effect as warm sand.

Looks photographic. Don't like to think about the background of the subject, but great grass.
