Yes, done. I don't know why I do this to myself. I thought this would be as easy as the last one but.... this guy Ryden is quite the..... interesting artist. Got to the point where I was just looking at the pic. Some things I'm really pleased with, some not so much, but overall this is one of my favorites. I worked damn hard on this where it got to be my own challenge. Now I can relax.

But if this doesn't meet the requirements I give up.
lori (Dec 28, 2006)
wow, that is soo good, so much detail!
choc_gum_dropz (Dec 28, 2006)

davincipoppalag (Dec 28, 2006)
Damn.. I can't believe your patience with details Barb!!! Jeez
Sweetcell (edited Feb 6, 2007)
This was difficult to do. In the upper part of the panels we have The Mayor, his sceretary Miss Bellam, their emergency phone, Him, and The Professor (their daddy) On the bottom is Mojo-jo-jo.
pancakes_rock (Dec 28, 2006)
hahh awesome i saw this some where tho cant remember oh well :'D
Sweetcell (Dec 28, 2006)
Excuse me pancakes? saw this where? If you mean the original look at the ref.
davincipoppalag (edited Dec 29, 2006)
Did you look at the notes on your Boticelli? I think Klox is allowing it because it's so good...you might not have had ot go through all this! hehehehe (glad you did though) hehe OOPS just saw his added note...he's letting it stay on the board but isn't judging that one..though you got kudos for doing something great in the theme..even though it didn't follow the rules..anyway..it's good!
cmb (Dec 29, 2006)
Thats DAMNABLY good! dag nabbit!
Hagaren (Dec 29, 2006)

xiau (Dec 29, 2006)
Powerpuff Girls is an awesome show. I still quite like it.
I really love this D; The detail is absolutely spectacular.
Sweetcell (edited Feb 6, 2007)
There's a glaring mistake on the upper pole on our right that's driving me nuts, not mention I didn't erase some lines on the bottom.
Lore_V_of_BlackHat (Dec 29, 2006)

Sweetcell, this is one of your best draws, but, where are the cartoon-character Powerpuff Girls drawn in the style of the artist? These are Ryden's girls. http://fern2002.freeservers.com/PowerpuffGirls.jpg
pancakes_rock (Dec 29, 2006)
this ish gonna WIN!
Sweetcell (edited Feb 6, 2007)
The girls are (left to right) Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossom.
djramz99 (Dec 30, 2006)
I agree with Miss DJ. This is by far the best picture here in terms of quality, but I would never have known that was the powerpuff girls if you didn't say so.
Still, it is an awesome pic.
TuffGhost (Dec 30, 2006)
great idea, I love it.
fleeting_memory (edited Jan 2, 2007)
absolutely amazing-and it meets the requirements! w00t! I vote for this one :)
edit: omg I totally didnt catch the pictures on the top of the merri-go-round! So cool :)
Alter.Native (Jan 2, 2007)
Awesome! Details, concept, everything!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jan 3, 2007)
I'm confused. I thought the purpose of the contest was to take a cartoon character and paint it in the style of an artist which had not yet been depicted in relation to said character, the 2draw artist applying that style to the character, thus making it an original work of art. These seem to be almost a direct copy of someone else's interpretation of the powerpuff girls. Correct me if I'm wrong, please... I have been known to be wrong.... once... twice... God if this makes three times shoot me... HELP.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 4, 2007)
I could be mistaken, I was seriously inquiring... maybe I misunderstood, and maybe this follows the guidelines, I don't know.
Miss_DJ (edited Jan 8, 2007)
I don't know either.
marcello (Jan 4, 2007)
dba: as far as I can tell, the original album cover has nothing to do with the powerpuff girls, it's just three girls on a merry go round

And wow, why are you people getting so nasty? No offense, but if you've seen the show and know the nature of this contest, you would make the connection (several of the other characters are displayed in the panels). It has the distinct colors, hair, and eyes. Ganging up is not cool.

You need to leave it to clox to decide whether something qualifies or not. If you're concerned, ask him privately in a memo.
nobody (edited Jan 4, 2007)
my two cents.

is this similar to the album cover? no doubt. very.

were the substitutions made in a creative way that incorporated themes from the cartoon and the characters into this? yes. i personally laughed when i saw this and thought how clever it was to take something that fit so well anyway and to put little pieces of the cartoon into it.

as it pertans to the rules of the contest? while the contest asks to make characters in the style of a painter, not put a character into a painting...the rules don't state whether or not this is outside the boundries. it would be impossible for anyone to make rules broad enough that they would lead to learning and creativity in contests if they expressly said exactly what could or could not be done covering every possible case.

it seems that what we have here are rules of the contest that are appropriately ambiguous to make this fun, challenging and creative. also, we have an artist who misread the rules once, and WITHOUT ANY COMPLAINT said, ok, no problem ill give it another shot. in my opinion, both of the entries are among the best quality and creativity entered. it seems to me that the contest board was meant for friendly and fun learning and competition. just like this site. why does everything have to be taken so seriously that all parties end up feeling bad? the rules were made well as per the objectives of these contests and the artist, not once but TWICE, put in a LOT of well spent effort making wonderful and fun and creative pieces.

if you dont think this piece measures up to the requirements, that's fine. you've made that clear. but in the end it's not your decision. so why take the fun and learning out of this by making it a bigger deal than it needs to be?

Miss_DJ (edited Jan 8, 2007)
The bent rule was that those who didn't follow the rules were to be disqualified. read above. Kloxboy gave her another chance. (applause for Kloxboy). Very nice decision on his part.
nobody (Jan 4, 2007)
the rules weren't bent. you are allowed to submit as many pieces as you want into each contest (haven't you yourself entered two?). kloxboy clearly stated that the venus piece wouldnt be considered, as per it didn't follow the rules and was disqualified. sweetcell didn't whine or moan about please bend the rules...just simply said, ok, ill do it again. i personally think that even as frustrating as that must have been (it was clearly a well done piece with much effort involved) sweetcell owned up to not reading the rules and goodheartedly continued on. i applaud sweetcell for having such a great attitude.

that's beside the point the really. i was just pointing out that this whole big stink is being made when really...the whole purpose of the contest is to have good natured competition and fun, creative learning and inspiration. no one here is trying to be a menace to that, so why are you being so argumentative and petty?

i really have no stake in this as im not even entered into the contest. but for crying out loud. this shouldnt be such an emotional thing.

DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jan 4, 2007)
It was not my intention to come across as "nasty", and I apologize if it reads that way. My question really wasn't whether it looked like the Powerpuff girls or not, I was just wondering if one were not supposed to put together a new combination of a cartoon with a different artist's style. Like I said, I was honestly confused. I still am, but I go around like that most of the time, so it's ok.

All that aside, the picture is very well-done, it's actually much better than the reference used. I'll just go stand in the corner, now.

edit: wait a minute... I stand corrected. I do think I understand... I thought that Mark Ryden had painted those girls "as" the Powerpuff girls... if what she did was just look at his depiction of his girl characters, paint them and say that's her interpretation of the Powerpuff girls in his style, then I'm not confused anymore.

Please do forgive me. I can be really stupid sometimes.
nobody (Jan 4, 2007)
sorry if there was confusion deadly. my comments weren't directed at you so much. your inquiry seemed nonconfrontational and valid.
Kloxboy (Jan 4, 2007)
*Everyone: Any further discussion on whether Sweetcell's piece qualifies should be discussed through the memo system or if possible, outside of 2draw. You're also welcome to memo me on the matter but please know, I'm not looking to debate over the matter. I will state right now, this piece qualifies and will be judged. Thanks.
Miss_DJ (edited Jan 8, 2007)
My apologies if any comments I made were construed as nasty. I was being frank. I get the impression that's only allowed by a select few.
Miss_DJ (edited Jan 8, 2007)
That would be a mistake, Sweetcell. It's a great drawing.
Kloxboy (Jan 7, 2007)
Congratulations Sweetcell! "The Powerpuff Girls" is awarded first place for Contest Week 41: Cartoon Painting. After all the controversy, scandal, sleepless nights and bribes (that last part was a joke), Sweetcell's "The Powerpuff Girls" reigns victorious. Sweetcell's piece exceeds in effort, skill and creativity, I found myself returning to this piece again and again, just to admire all the details. I love Ryden's work and I like the album cover this piece was based on, excellent idea Sweetcell. This is one of the most ambitious contest entries I've ever seen on 2Draw, well done siski.

And so it went....as the sunset loomed ominously just above the horizon in Cello land, justice was served up once again and all of the good folk celebrated by getting naked and painting each other up with roller brushes soaked in all the colors of the land!
Dr.Snoopy (Jan 7, 2007)
Let's have some happycakes :D

Congrats Sweetcell...you have put a lot of work into this, and it paid off!

Don't know why I'm getting involved, but I just wanted to respond to your last note Miss DJ,
Sweetcell DID NOT get a 2nd chance at this contest due to klox's good graces, ANYONE can submit multiple drawings for contests, that has been expressed from the beginning of the contests. He advised her well before the end of the contest why her first drawing didn't qualify and she was able to submit another before the end date. If you have an issue with him telling her that her submission didn't qualify, on a drawing community site, thats pretty nit-picky. If she had been given extra time due to the fact she hadn't read the rules, I could understand, but as it is, I don't understand the problem.

great job sweetcell, looks incredible
