Even though they sometimes look like they're separate trees, this is actually the inside of the one giant tree Tamuril that's large enough to have a miniture forest within its trunk. The light comes from the phosphorescent crystals here which channel in light from shafts to the outside. If they were to be mined out and exploited then the animals and the entire inner forest would die. Because Tamuril is the point of origin for this world, the effects would radiate out and eventually cause an end to everything else.

outside view of tamuril here

You are incredible madame. Now I want to see a story revolving around the Tamuril. Protectors of the Tamuril fighting an evil force bent on destroying it and the world, and of course a reluctant hero having to face his greatest fears. Yes this one makes me think.

Just an edit to say maybe the hero comes from that land of mist who never saw the sun..... :)

looks like the inside of somebodies heart. to me at least.
It looks like I could walk into the picture. nicely done.

I was thinking about making a group of ninja like animal people that protect the inside of the tree, and every location I make is going to have its own story.

This was partly inspired by Secret of Mana (where greedy humans drained mana power at the expense of the world and ended up destroying the mana tree), partly by Final Fantasy 7 (where greedy humans drained the life force of the planet into refined and compressed crystals called materia), but also partly based on the 1992 movie FernGully: The Last Rainforest (where greedy humans cut down the forests and the forest creatures/fairies have to save their home). There's kind of a greedy human theme here. Even though I wasn't thinking of any of those when I started making this, as you develope an idea you start to remember the things you've experienced that are unconsciously contributing to your idea. It's the same basic idea I talked about in the description of this picture (which was much longer until I summarized it). I could keep going with other things I've experienced that have similar ideas and themes, and whether you realize it or not it's simply a part of the creative process to draw upon past experience like that.

although it's fine to look it the inside of a living creature, since it is, I'm trying to avoid crossing the line over into the grotesque. I cut back on a lot of what I thought were rib-like branches that were in the first sketch and by the time I'm done there'll be more green and foilage to balance things out, not just red and purple.

I like that stuff on the right that looks like tree roots made of muscle. Cool
