cellini - hmm, i don't recall him from my studies. looks like you're really getting used to the applet.
ok just checked the ref. for some reason i thought that statue was by donatello (duno why - just the dark bronze maybe). you should have done the statue a couple over this one in Florence - the rape of sabine women. is that right? it's been awhile.
frootcake: Thanks for the comment. I just looked up "The Rape of the Sabine Women" and it's a very interesting piece of art! So much energy and the characters are so animated! It's rare to find such dynamic poses in sculpture... at least from what I've seen.
yea totally although for me you have to look at michelangelo for the benchmark in sculpture. the rape of prosipena(sp?) by bernini is another good dynamic piece. the way the hand puckers her fleshy skin is just mmmm detail.
frootcake: Yeah, I'm a fan of Michelangelo's sculpture as well... although if you asked Leonardo, his rival, he'd say Mickey's figures looked like sacks full of nuts! haha.
Anyway, I'm interested in hearing thoughts on the helmet? It was strange to decypher exactly how it fits the head... particularly right above his forehead and peeking from his hair. I'm assuming thats part of the helmet but it appears to not cover the head properly. Oh, I even took the trouble to explain in greater detail: http://cosmos.phpwebhosting.com/~tribes/paul/cellinidiscuss.jpg
So here I was, in the middle of the night, just wandering the halls and through the galleries in Celloland, and I stumbled upon this wonderfully executed piece of art. Everything about it is wonderful, I love it.
