I don't suppose anyone here might know anything about this flower? My wife, Niphaphone, has been growing this plant (it's from someplace in asia. Supposed to be good luck) for over two years. She said that it's tradition or folklore that if one want's this plant, they must steal it, because if the owner of it chooses to give it to someone, they are giving all their luck away. Eventually it grew a bud right out the side of one of the leafs (big bud) and then one evening it bloomed. The next day it was dead and withered, just hanging down all shriveled up. Wierdest thing. The flower was HUGE.

That is really beautiful, whatever it is. I'm sure I haven't ever seen one, so I wouldn't know what it is (hell, I don't even know what half of my own flowers are called, technically, I just make up names for them) You should give this one a name yourself. :)

The fact that it only bloomed for a very short duration reminded me of Mr. Wilson's flower in the Dennis the Menace movie.

The man who owned it told her she would have to steal it if she wanted it. After he left the house for work, his wife went against his wishes and cut a piece from it, put it in water and gave it to my wife. I never heard if she got in trouble when he came home or not. I doubt it.

Looks and sounds like a flower called Queen of the Night (Selenicereus grandiflorus) It blooms
around 8pm-10 pm and is said to only bloom for an hour. Lovely flower :) I could be wrong though.

That flower It is like hope: one day it is great and gorgeous, the next one might be dead and withered. Certainly, "might" is the key word ;) Yay!

It is the night-blooming Cereus (queen of the night). Here's a page with a pic and a little info: here. More info here. Funny thing- they classify it as a type of cactus, though it doesn't really look like one. That's a neat-o plant you have there Axil.

Can u eat the fruit? Has anyone ever heard of the lady's slipper? It's an orchid that I've only seen growing in the mountains here in North Carolina. I think it's protected and against the law to disturb. Very beautiful and really looks like a slipper.
