Contest Week 25: Make It Anime

Your goal this week is to draw non-anime characters in an anime style. The non-anime characters you draw must be from a popular movie, TV show, animated film/show or a video game. For example, you might draw a character (or characters) from the movie The Lord of the Rings in anime style. An example of a character you wouldn't want to draw is Inuyasha because he's already an anime character. I came up with this contest for all of you anime artists on 2Draw but I think this is also a good challenge for some of you more traditional artists as well.

In addition to the usual "Judging Criteria", I'll be looking for: 1) Highly skilled anime style pieces. The more your entry has that authentic anime art style, the better you'll fair in the contest. 2) The character you draw should be in his or her natural setting. For example, if you drew SpongeBob SquarePants, the background/setting should be somewhere in Bikini Bottom, perhaps his pineapple house or The Krusty Krab. Please do not copy other artists work and have fun. :)

Contest Week 25 will be open for entries from Monday, August 14th to Saturday, August 19th, 11:59 PM PST.

JUDGING CRITERIA:
Creativity: The amount of imagination, originality and expressiveness that was put into the entry.
Technique & Effort: The amount of style, skill and craft that was put into the entry.
Following the Theme: How well the entry followed the theme of the contest.

When you say "authentic anime art style", do you mean cell-shaded?

Xiau: Good question, I didn't mean cell-shaded specifically but that is indeed an authentic anime style. I just meant the standard anime style, the style that most people would recognize as "anime art". But that's great, if anyone wishes to do that "cell-shaded" look, I will definitely consider that as authentic anime style.

Noremac: Aren't there any anthro like characters from movies or TV shows you could draw? oO I'm sure we'll have an anthro contest someday, until then, see what you can do with this contest.

I've never drawn an 'Anime' style pic in my life but I really like some Japanese animated movies. I guess I'll do a little studying up and try it just so all the Anime experts around here can laugh at me. ;)

NOTE: This is a good challenge for those of you who don't draw anime much or have never drawn anime. I wasn't a big fan of anime for the longest time but I've come to appreciate anime that's drawn well, I can appreciate effort and craftsmanship.

You can draw actors named Pat or Tom, or actresses named Pattom, or actors from TV shows, or characters with green hair, or actresses born on a Sunday, or characters made of fire, or actors who believe in God but don't go to church... or, um...I imagine I'm missing a few billion combinations. Just send me a memo if you're not sure about your actor/character choice. :)

But can you pat tom after? Won't Pattom get upset if you do?.. Omg..the uncertainty...

if you wanted to make a contest to see who can make the best anime drawing then you should have just done that. Because I have to say, The linus drawing looks like any other anime, thats the only rule they followed. I honestly thought the contests "challenge" was to take the cookie cutter anime style and create an anime character that resemles a character who ISNT anime, that would have been a real challenge. what we have here was just an anime drawing contest...frankly this was bullshit.

I most desagree with you Orkdoop, this contest was as valid as the previous ones. If you want to be specific, yes it was about anime drawing... but it was still and art contest. And hey, drawing anime isn't as easy as it looks.

First let me say congratulations to everyone who entered! Drawing anime style art is not an easy thing, I can't do it...and I tried for hours! Those who entered all did great!

Although, I think I agree with Orkdoop. I don't know anything about the third place winner's character, but I do know who Linus and Jack are. Both pieces were great! Kudos to the artists. While each drawing had elements that made them recognizeable they aren't really anime versions eh? I mean if nothing else, Jack is a skeleton for crying out loud...you know, no hair, no eyes...
Please don't get me wrong, being able to draw good anime is a talent, and both of those were wonderful, but it does seem as if the contest was merely a contest to see who could draw the best anime style picture not to draw an anime version of a non-anime character.
