Just a pink rose, but I want it to look very realistic.

Close but kind of lost my crisp delicate edges.

This one gave me pains, the petals wanted to dissapear into each other. I don't know that I can do any more with it so I am going to say it is finished.
diablo_fan (Aug 15, 2006)
just smooth out the pink lines that outline the rose
KuteDymples (Aug 15, 2006)
I have reached my limit, so unless a mod will let me have more space again....but now when I enlarge it I can see that I should have done that before submitting. Thanks for your input.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Aug 15, 2006)
Very pretty, I think a few highlights, the indication of some veins would help, and as diablo suggested, smoothing the outline a bit. I have such a hard time doing roses here, myself... I haven't ever done one I was happy with, but this is a great start.
davincipoppalag (Aug 15, 2006)
I agree.. it's basically going well, but needs more variations..looking good
KuteDymples (Aug 15, 2006)
I have a big problem with trying to get lines thin enough. The smallest brush size is way bigger than I would like. I have tired to narrow it down using the background color, etc. but still unhappy. Yes veins would be good and so would some indication of foilage in the background, never thought of that. Thanks
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Aug 15, 2006)
I think it deserves more space, you shouldn't be afraid to ask for it... if you want to work on it some more, that is.
(are you leaving it on the anti-alias option? Also, try the 1 pixel brush and put it on the airbrush, that makes it a bit smaller and softens it some)
davincipoppalag (Aug 15, 2006)
It helps to use the smallest brush size but also cut down the opacity and flow..use the antialias setting sometimes..but it works better for finer lines with that off...at least it seems to
KuteDymples (Aug 15, 2006)
Yes that makes so much sense..why didn't I think of that. I will try that with the brush size. I have ask for more space one more time to see what i can do with this pic. what is the anti-alias option?
davincipoppalag (Aug 15, 2006)
Its by the brush pallette.. makes lines look less pixelly..
KuteDymples (Aug 15, 2006)
Thanks, I hate that pixelly look, i try to smooth them out but then I loose stuff. That is one reason I didn't try to smooth out the pink lines anymore, I had done it and it smeared so badly that I redone them.
davincipoppalag (Aug 15, 2006)
low opacity eraser works some too
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Aug 15, 2006)
Right now the applet is set to automatically be on "anti-alias" - if you don't change it, it will be like that when you load up a canvas. The one pixel brush tends to be very sharp, anyway, having it on anti-alis and airbrush make it small, but soft enough to outline things without being harsh.
KuteDymples (Aug 15, 2006)
Yes, i was in the applet playing around a bit. I am waiting for them to grant me some more space and I will revise this. With the help of the two most realistic artists on the board I can't go wrong. :-) Thank you so much.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Aug 15, 2006)
You did memo for more space, then? Good....I'm not too "up" on the technical part of all this, I don't know much.... actually I'm severely ignorant when it comes to the tools. Glad to have been able to help some, though.
KuteDymples (Aug 15, 2006)
Yes, you have been a lot of help. I practiced some with the small lines on a piece that I was playing with. I am just waiting for more space to finish this rose. Thanks again!
Sweetcell (Aug 15, 2006)
Only thing I can add is at times, especially with the darks, to use the blend, it's an invaluable tool I use all the time. Especially when I do skin. If you use blend for the lights you have to go to the almost lightest of the color otherwise it will blend dark. It makes everything look smooth, and the values more natural. And if your brave you can try dodge and burn to add some highlights and shading. But you have to be very careful with those two, they can be overused. They should be set on low low opacity and flow, and the airbrush as well. Used right it can add to your picture.

It's a beautiful rose. I've not tried any flowers yet, maybe one day. Keep going.
KuteDymples (Aug 15, 2006)
Thank you Sweetcell excellent tips, I will try them.

Cleaned up the outline and added highlights. I tried adding veins and they looked terrible. Didn't know what I was doing there so I left it alone.
Pantera (Aug 16, 2006)
Wow, very nice, I can not do roses at all, I try :) this looks great, how about a yellow one? :)
KuteDymples (Aug 16, 2006)
I would love to start a yellow one, but I think I may go to intermediate to do it. I will get more space there. I had to revise this one so many times to get it to this point. I am so glad you like it. Thanks!
