Exciting news for you Lascaux fans!
A group of my classmates and I are going to work on improving Marcello's Lascaux applet for our Software Engineering class. That's right, some of the features you've dreamed of for Lascaux may actually happen! Right now we're still in a research phase for the project, so here's your chance to make your voices heard. We will not be able to make all (or even most) of the changes that could be made to improve the applet, so we want to know what features you would most like to see in a new version of Lascaux. Here is a list of some of the more major changes we are considering: (1) Adding a proper Smudge tool. (2) Photoshop-esque filters (not to be confused with blending modes, which are already supported). (3) (4) Allowing all settings, such as stored brushes and palette colors, to be saved so you don't have to reconfigure everything every time you run the applet. (5) Adding texture support for brushes, like the texture tool in Shi-painter. (6) Adding access to help features inside the applet. (7) Allowing selections to be copied, rotated, and/or flipped. (8) Gradient option for flood fill. Please post here about which of these changes would be most useful to you. If there is something else you'd like to see change, be sure to mention that as well. |

Wow, that sounds cool! Good luck with all of that =]

3, 5, and 7. Of course, I only want 3 because I'd like to see how people do things in Lascaux, so it's not a must-have.

smudge would be nice...sometimes blend just don't get it done

Adding new features would be fine, wonderful, even, as long as nobody jacks up what Marcello already has perfectly right. "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it", as my Daddy always says.
(I personally like the selected area copy/rotate/flip idea) |

I like 4 and 7. I think the Shi texture tool is kinda lame.

personally, a reason i use lascaux is partly so ppl can't watch how i've done it. I just like the privacy. If you do sort this feature have it at the users disgression (sp?). Otherwise, nice ideas, it would be cool to get zep on the lascaux bandwagon

Smudge, definitely smudge. The others sound great (especially #4) but if there could only be one, I'd choose smudge.

Great! Hope it all works out. :}

I love #7!!!!!!!!!!
#1 is good too I'm strongly against adding filters to Lascaux. So I say no to 2 & 8. |

DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 12, 2006)
I usually try not to smudge things... like my mascara... *flips hair* and ummmm, if filters will make things more complicated and I become any blonder, I won't like it.

I'm so excited! Thank you, Zack :) Everything would be useful, but the smudge sounds the best to me. Too bad the animation thing isn't possible - that would have been cool.

Thanks for the input so far! Keep it coming!
Yeah, I talked it over with the group, and they weren't too keen on all the work that animation support would require. Also, having thought about it for a while, filters probably wouldn't be very useful and would most likely end up just cluttering up the applet. |

I think 1 and 8 sound the best, also i think having something that shows u how much space u have used while ur actually drawing would be cool, dont know if that would be possible or not.

1, 5, 7, and 8 sound great to me, I'd like to add to the features in #7, a better move tool, like in Shi. When I use the move now it's like more like a light clone and it leaves behind another clone. A proper cut and move tool would be ideal. Save a lot of time.

Looking forward to this. :)

7... I always have to save my drawing and then flip it around in MS paint because I have to see what things look like backwards for whatever it is to not look totally retarded. If you could do it with the applet that would be, just, like, so much better.

Sweet: Make sure you have "antialias" set to off and that you have opacity and flow both set to maximum when you use the selection/move tools, otherwise it'll do that wierd ghost thing.

Sweetcell (Jul 16, 2006)
Really? Well damn I didn't know that. Well then nevermind about that extra stuff, just what you have sounds great.
Zack thank you. Soft porn hugs for yas. :) |

Here's another vote for adding Smudge to the top of the priority list.
It's a shame you can't do animation, but that's really just a curiosity thing more than a functionality thing. Option 4 sounds handy, too. |

So what's the update on this? Any news?

Smudge tool and Gradient option for flood fill, would be very cool :)

Marcello's Lascaux is my favorite program to draw with, the changes sound incredible. It will be so nice to have a texture tool also to be able to store my settings, brushes, etc. Great idea!

Is it still okay to post? *looks at last post date*
...because I think a crop tool would be very useful. Some way to change canvas size without clearing the image. |

HunterKiller_ (Dec 31, 2007)
I vote for saving brush/palette settings.
