Lately, this site has been making me feel that none of my works are good enough... no matter how hard I try, I get shot down... It has lowered my drawing mood a bit...

Hey Kira, don't let some get you down, it's meant to try to push you into doing better, just keep it up and you'll evolve, and if you need an ego boost look at some people's first works and you'll see they took awhile to come along and evolve. It's just a matter of trying and learning the appelets. This is looking good so far. Focus on one thing at a time, then when your ready start the little details. It's coming along.

Don't get down. Just keep practicing; drawing well doesn't automatically come to you in a second. Don't be afraid of critique either. It's harsh sometimes, but it really does help in improving so you should take it to heart. :3 Sorry if I sound preachy. Besides, this one is quite well done; probably a few errors here and there, but you have a lot of potential. It's refreshing to see someone spend more than 10 minutes on their work, especially in the begginer boards. See? You're already ahead of more than half the people on these boards. Just slow down, and take your time.

have you tried using shi-painter? it's a tad easier i think. then maybe onece you get the hang of everything cand read the wiki lascaux tutorial you can graduate to it :P
gore_vision (Feb 28, 2006)
i like it reminds me of lara croft!
Kira (Feb 28, 2006)
Seriously, thank you Sweetcell, Blahaha and Kristine. That has helped me alot, I now have the motivation to improove. Glad this work is turning out good. <3 I'm aware of my errors with hands, shading in areas and well.. backgrounds.
Maybe I'll mess around with the other applets, see what I can do with them.
Gore Vision, wtf Lara Croft? XD This is kind of a picture of myself... heh.

Your pictures are slowly improving, I can see that as I browse through your gallery.
Don't let comments get you down, they're usually meant to help you improve.
also, you overreact and start throwing tantrums like a 5 year old :\
What I suggest is (yes, use Shi painter, because personally, I hate lascaux and it's an easier program to work with) and also that you don't always have to submit the pictures that you draw, sometimes it's best to just practice a bit and not submit.
Furthermore! about boards, you say having different level boards is "stuck up" of us, the thing is, 2draw is our community, kinda like a neighborhood, don't you want your neighborhood looking at its best? you don't neccesarily need to draw the most perfect pictures, but when going to the intermediate/advanced boards, you should be really really careful, even some of the best artists on here prefer sticking to the beginner board.

when you're at this site, just make sure not to freak out all the time, because we really aren't all "nice and sweet" people who will only say good things about other people's pictures. We critique to help eachother, and we poke and tease people to help them grow some backbone.

:3 don't take to my comment offensively, I'm just saying :\
anyway, your method of colouring is pretty neat, no layers? It's hard for me to do no lineart pictures.
you're definately getting better. though, I think getting used to this community is going to take some work :B for anyone, really.

EDIT: It's also useful if you comment on other people's pictures :I if you only draw and reply to comments given to you, you won't get too far with making friends with people on this site.

Don't get down Kira, everybody is trying to help you. Its not easy learning to take constructive crit' but really its well worth reading all the excellent advice people here give to you. I don't think there is an artist here that isn't always trying to better what they did before or searching for that one painting/drawing that is just perfect. You are not alone in receiving advice on here...also its not easy for people to convey their advice in a soft toned voice so as not to hurt your feelings, because its written and not spoken. Don't assume people are being mean or nasty..most of them are not. I just looked through your gallery and you have come along loads here, and you will continue to do so from now on too. Hopefully so will I lol Take heart friend..best wishes Suzie :D

Forgot to comment on this..lol I really like her pose, and the colours you have chosen :D

Added more details... to the wooden cabinets, skin, fingers (yes... I have nails) one of my neck moles, (few more of those to add...) and that grey splotch is a pencil sharpener. and a tray... I'll do more with it when I get a chance.. right now, *sneezes* D:
Aside from physical craptasticness... I feel much better mentaly, emotionally and uh artisticly? xD <3

Yes, it is looking better, and I whole heartedly recommend Oekaki shi, so much easier to use, not as frightening, and you have more than one kind of medium. My first pictures I started in Lascaux, and at first I liked it better, then I tried Shi, and let me tell you the difference is incredible, for me. I do try lascaux on occasion, but I'm a shi painter. Take everyones advice to heart and you'll get better. Never give up, never surrender.

I'm sorry I had a Galaxy Quest feedback for a second there.

Add some shadows to the arms, figure out where the light source is and apply accordingly, maybe some shadows under the chin to define the head, and work on the eyes and lips more to make them pop out. It's coming along, you finish this.

Added shading from light hitting forward... switched things around (I'm right handed and my watch is on my left wrist, and the neck mole is on the right side.. replaced with a tiny cheek mole and 2 on my right wrist. Added shading to the walls, made the blotch look like a sharpener, and put an outlet right next to it. I have a feeling something's wrong with the right arm... out too far maybe? Eh.. I'll see what I can do with it...

Been a while since I started this, life got in the way. Lack of motivation Plus I've been ignoring mouse doodles for pencil drawings now that my scanner is back up. Alot has happened then. My watch broke and my hairstyle is.... slightly different. The bangs are braided and I feel I'm done with this piece.
For all of you who gave words of encouragement I thank you.
