Very nice perspective on this peice. I also really like the lighting from the window!
JoeNobody (Feb 4, 2006)
I love this one Axil. The angle is great, I hope you complimented the photographer on her picture taking. Like your "blue grey", this could have so many different ideas of what's going on, why she's by the window, what's she watching, who's she waiting for, etc.

and about the gun, buy several more, it'll save time reloading,
HunterKiller_ (Feb 4, 2006)
This is your daughter? Wow, nice... the picture i mean.
Orkdoop (Feb 4, 2006)
shes the "pretty one"

Sweetcell (Feb 4, 2006)
Lovely use of shading and highlights. These pieces that you do are reminiscent (spelled right?) of The Impressionists work. Do you use Oil as your normal medium on real canvas? She's a lovely lass, be proud. (and you can never own too many guns, if there be the likes of Derrick about. jk.)
kristine (Feb 4, 2006)
is this the same daughter you drew while your pupils were dilated?

pretty one. i like it :)

...prepare for a thrashing.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Feb 4, 2006)
thrashing, hell... his mouth is inviting a "cock of a hammer going back" (and he was stupid enough to tell us where to gun him down, what a dumb ass)
Jervy (Feb 4, 2006)
For some reason this reminds me of Marilyn Munroe...

Ok here's the thing. allah death is obviously a regular who grabbed an email addy and signed up just to comment on this pic because he doesn't have the balls to do it under whatever name we know him by, a gutless turd. However, I really cant decide, do i leave this pic up (I do like it, not only because it's Jen, but because I like how it turned out, or do I delete it to avoid any further insults? If I leave it up, maybe someone will delete the comment, maybe not. If I delete it am I giving at least some control of what I have here to this coward allah death.
Then again she is my little girl and I can't have those remarks about her.

Artiste (edited Feb 5, 2006)
Axil62, I think you should leave it up. She's a beautiful girl, and the painting is excellent. The comment should be completely ignored by everyone.
The painting reminds me of one of those old 30's illustrations (my favorite art to look at). My only criticism I have would be to ad just a touch more definition to the lower half in the shadows. It looks a little flat to me on my screen. In fact, you may have the same situation I had with my monitor. There is a dark line against the sleeve that looks like you may not have intended it to look that way...
Axil62 (Feb 5, 2006)
Are you talking about the shadow on her arm from the sleeve, or the darkest line going upward from her arm pit?
Artiste (edited Feb 5, 2006)
the darkest line going up from her armpit, and around the sleeve looks very dark brown, and almost out of place. Do you intend it to stand out like that?
I had my monitor settings too low, and when I calibrated my monitor, I found this type of thing on several of my paintings.

If youre interested, here is a link to the discussion on it in Froums, and Marcello posted a link to where you can check your settings.
Axil62 (Feb 5, 2006)
The darks are actually that dark in the ref. But looking at the ref now, I'm really surprised at some of the mistakes. I think I'll work on it some more. I read the post about your monitor and went to the link, mine was off just a tad and I had adjusted it prior to this draw.
JoeNobody (Feb 5, 2006)
leave it up!!! everyone can tell that allah is just some a-hole who joined just to post the ignorant comment. Hopefully the powers that be will delete his account and remove what was said (if they can). They may also associate an IP with the account and tell who it is.

leave the image here, it's a wonderful painting.
nobody (Feb 5, 2006)
her pose and expression reminds me of the propaganda for rosie the riveter.
it says, 'i'm spunky and beautiful, and intelligent enough to know it.'

props to jessica on a wonderful reference. props to dan for a job well done.

points of critique for me would be her left (our right; the one in shadow) part of the face. the harsh transition from brown to grayish to pinkish peach i think detracts from things in general. the same goes for the shadow artiste mentioned. also the speckling on her stomach is somewhat distracting. of course i have no expertise, only the ability to observe and comment on what seems distracting from my perspective.

i took the time to comment so much on this one because it is one of my new favorites. i do hope you take the time to fix whatever mistakes you noticed. it's stunning work as it is.
jayceepearl (Feb 5, 2006)
Beautiful picture. Beautiful girl.
Artiste (Feb 5, 2006)
nobody: That's exactly the same painting it reminded me of when I refered to it as looking like 30's style illustration. (I just hadnt realized it)
