I did a painting of Bob Dylan at home (if I knrew how to link it here I would). To me at home, it looks like a completed picture, subtle changes in the hair area which is mostly dark... the lapel of his coat is all dark at home too. Im at work now, and I took a look jjust to see from a diferent monitor, and to my surprise it looks like a completely diferent painting. The hair looks transparent and unfinished, and there is a purple line down the side of the lapel (which I thought was black).

My monitor settings at home are more accurate than at work... home is a mac and work is a pc. Im a little discouraged by this now. Ho hum.

I completely understand and sympathize with you. Forever I've been drawing at work only to get home and see countless mistakes on a better monitor. Just this Monday I bought a good work monitor and now this won't happen to me any more. You can always revise a finished piece for your own personal satisfaction.

I would say both monitors are screwed up. If you think the hair area is all dark, your home monitor is way too dark, it's very quite brown to me (and just a slightly darker tone than the grey that surrounds the picture). If the grey around the picture looks near black to you, then your settings are too low.

On a side note, the picture looks fine to me on my monitor.

That's kinda strange. I think all we own are Macs (and we have about four in total including this one I use at school), and I think the default lighting seems just fine. I see what Marcello sees.

Thank you Marcello! I think that worked, and I believe my monitor settings must have been too low. I'm going to try to fix the painting to the way its intended!

I fixed the peice the way I want it, and now I see that all my work is washed out! You live and learn., Thanks for the advice Marcello.
