actually, theres nothing to prevent the chicken flu. Vacune against the normal flu will maker you more weak against the other.

Terrific job drawing the duck! Too bad he's gonna be dangerous. Not sure they have a bird flu vaccine yet, anyway.
featherstone (Nov 2, 2005)

brainspiller83 (Nov 2, 2005)

Good job on the shape.

This Avian Influenza H5N1 (I think is what it is called) is isolated mostly in Asia. And America has cut off most fowl imports now, so the U.S. is probably safe. Besides the fact that humans can't get it from humans, yet. only humans from birds. But scientists are scared becuse each time they find a case, the virus has changed. They're afriad it will mutate into a virus that humans can get from other humans. That's the big scare. Even if it does, It's in Asia, so I'm not worrying.

They found some infected birds in Canada Walt...

Perhaps it's time we launched a war on ignorance - global killer No. 1.

There have been strains of avian flu that have jumped from human to human. It's rare but it's there. A similar thing happened with Haunta Virus a while ago in Argentina. The patient who originally contracted it, the doctor who identified it, his RN, his secretary, and his wife all died of the new Huanta virus strain. Luckily it stopped there.
Now, with transcontinental flights making it possible for you to travle halfway around the world in a matter of hours the likelihood of a pandemic has increased significantly. An infected individual can get on a plane and give the pathogen to other passengers while the individual still shows no symptoms. When the plane lands and the newly infected people go their seperate ways, some continuing on to other cities and other countries, conditions are ripe for a pandemic. Transcontinental transportation is an epidemiological nightmare. >_<

There's no prevention for death, it's gonna get all of you... why don't you spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about it and trying to prevent it. I had one of those for dinner, basted in wine and butter.
Caddris (Nov 2, 2005)
I'm not so much worried about my death, I just think it would suck to have everyone you know and care about get sick and die. And as I said, I'm a hypochondriac; worrying about the emergence of new pandemics is what I do. n__n

o_o I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude. I guess I forgot to tell you how much I like the picture in the midst of my ramblings. He's a very cute duck. I really like the detail you put into the feathers. You did a very good job on the feet also.

I work at a category 10 airport so if it happens I'll be your miners parakeet.
Nightmare (edited Nov 3, 2005)
Did the miners use canarys?
davincipoppalag (Nov 3, 2005)
They used to keep a bird in a cage in the mines to detect methane and other gases because the birds would die first and warn them of the danger.
Caddris (Nov 3, 2005)
Awwww. How sweet of you Axil. Just e-mail me a 'heads up' when you're dead, okay?
