DieChan (Jul 15, 2005)
We're having a bit of a problem. My brother just turned six on July 5 and he has a problem with food. You see, he eats way too much too often, and when we aren't watching him, he'll steal more from the kitchen. So, humble and fellow 2draw-ers, do you have any advice as to what we can do about this little eating disorder? Help and advice would be mucho appreciated.

Mouse traps in the cupboards. That and a few bear traps in the pantry should do the trick.

You should have the food locked and away from the reach of the little kid and you should have a doctor check his health.

Well... here's another problem. Our cupboards are kinda... busted and we can't really shut them. And he's smart enough to know to get a chair when he can't reach it himself. I don't want people to think this is some sob story; it's true. But I'll try to convince my mother to take him to a doctor about it.
And traps are just... mean. D: |

Laxitives in the food he likes should do the trick.

XD;;; Wouldn't that be a form of aenorexia, though? o_o;;

is there a difference between the food he normally eats (that your parents feed him) and the food he steals? Maybe he just wants different food. You could also consider only buying certain types of food, healthy food, that even if he ate a lot of he wouldn't be getting high levels of fat or sugar. That way overeating is still an issue, but not nearly as much so. If nothing else you can let him learn from his mistakes and watch him turn into a little lardball, only to regret it years later.

There really is no difference in what he steals and what we give him; in fact, he steals the leftovers from the dinner that my mother made! It's sad that he eats more than I, an almost seventeen year old/
Example of our problem: Not long ago he ate three sandwiches. Three! I can only have two, and that's all I can stand. Then later, I was making some mini pizza rolls (12, because they are really small) and layed them on my desk to cool. When I came back, they were gone, and he was in another room eating them! Three sandwiches and pizza rolls! We don't know what to do, but I'll try your advice, Redpanda. :D |

If your brother has a problem with eating too much food, first, you should ask if your parents are trying to help. Limit his food portions, and keep the food out of reach. May be he needs to see a dietition or nutrionist.

I understand how hard it is to resist eating sometimes...like the time I ate a whole jar of olives and half a bag of jolly ranchers. You can guess what i did for 2 hours later that night. *_* Eating alot can be caused by stress and/or boredom too so tell your brother to relax and find something amusing to do. Dont tell him to watch TV. Eating goes right along hand in hand with TV.

I really don't know what you did for 2 hours that night....... Do I want to?? o_o

emmamommalag (Jul 19, 2005)
How long has he been doing this? It may just be that he's having a growth spurt and needs more food right now.
|
||||
Kloxboy (Jul 19, 2005)
Hahaha, "What was the flavor of the diarrhea?"!!!!
|
||||
Animegirl250 (Jul 19, 2005)
lol I didnt taste my diarrhea! The olives were green and the jolly ranchers were assorted flavors. But why does that matter?!
|

squee (Jul 19, 2005)
Chain the cabnet and fridge doors shut. If not, maybe you should ask a doctor on what to do.
|
||||
DieChan (Jul 19, 2005)
emmemommalaq: He's been doing this ever since he was three. He's six now. I don't think it's a growth spurt...
squee: XD I'll have to try that... then how would I get in? .__.;; TO THE DOCTOR!! *charges off* |
||||
Xodiak (Jul 19, 2005)
I think he needs to learn something else to keep himself occupied instead of eating, like masturbating... <:)
|XOD| |
||||
DieChan (Jul 19, 2005)
.__.;; XOD, I don't think that's something anyone would want to walk in on... especially considering we don't have doors in our house. X3;;;;

...
Trailer? |
||||
DieChan (Jul 19, 2005)
No, real house, no doors. D: The bathroom door barely stands and could easily be pushed over. >.>; Like I said, not something you'd want to walk in on... ><;
|
||||
Nightmare (Jul 19, 2005)
...
You don't have to do it in a bathroom, but I will let Xod fill you in on the rest. |
||||
squee (Jul 19, 2005)
Have a padlock on it. Keep the key safe where he can't get it and where you can.
|
||||
emmamommalag (Jul 19, 2005)
In that case.. ask the doctor what to do.

Are you sure that what you may think to be a lot, really isn't? I believe boys do tend to eat more than girls.. o.o;
And does the boy seem to be gaining too much weight? o.O If he isn't, I don't see a problem.. But if there is a problem.. perhaps if you let him eat as much as he wants and more in one sitting, so much that he becomes sick from it, he won't be so keen to eat as much any more?.. I also think RedPanda's idea of only buying healthy foods is good.. Or try to hide/lock up the food.. Or.. have you tried asking him why he's so hungry? o.o Ask him why he's eating again when he's just eaten not too long ago? Or punish him for eating too much.. o.o; Yell at him, or however disipline is carried out in your house.. >>; ... I don't know.. |
||||
Ian (Jul 21, 2005)
There is an actuall disorder in some people that means the part of the brain or somthing that tells you when your 'full' will always tell you your hungry. this means the person feels like they are either hungry or literally starving. another very big downside is that the persons digestive system actually works slower than a normal persons. its kind of a bitter ironic twist that they are starving jet not physicly able to eat so much without being very sick. it has been known to be fatal by being morbidly obese by the age of 30.
but dont worry, its very rare and I doubt he has it. yould know by now too. |
||||
MoonlitShadow (Jul 21, 2005)
I saw that on TV.. o.o The boy that had it was freaking out because his mom wasn't letting him eat..
I doubt he has it, though perhaps an appointment with a doctor would help. =\ I don't like doctors, it would be a last resort for me.. but it may be different for you. o.o |
