getting too tired to work anymore for now, but I'm wondering what I should do with the background. I had wanted it to be like a small shop, maybe with a bookshelf, window, door, etc., and the pot is on a shelf, but I'm not fully sure how I should arrange it or how much detail to put into that. The tree will have some branches on its back there. I'll finish tomorrow.
I didn't think of that, maybe I'll change the idea for this then. I still need something for a giant tree though, to support a certain village I had been designing. Maybe I'll find a way to combine the two ideas.
you're really good at this. i wish we could see all of his foliage, but im digging the shade of green lots. i hope you dont mute it too much. interesting bg and well done. the whole piece is pretty inspiring

Finally done. I decided to go with my original ideas for this, but I'll probably use some of those suggestions in future pictures. I did some yard work and ate dinner in the middle of this so the timer is probably off by an hour on this version, but that doesn't matter.
-forgot to mention, I drew it entirely with the pencil tool because I was trying out a different method of drawing/coloring. Most of the time the opacity was at 20-30/255, so that's why it took awhile.
There are some perspective issues with the pot, especially where the tree connects to the ground and doesn't give enough room for the tree to have as much depth as width.
Seems like it would work better if the line for the table was level across and the perspective of the pot was a lot flatter, i.e. we see a lot less of the top side of the pot, which means the oval consisting of the top edge of the pot was a lot thinner. That would pretty much mean covering up the roots and dirt with the front edge of the pot though. Hm.
Well, one thing I see with the pot is that the oval you got on the top somewhat resembles a football. No matter how thin the oval gets, you "always" need to round off the corners. Trust me, I learned that in art class and it works.
Yeah, the ends aren't as rounded as they should be. Actually I think the left one is even less rounded than the right. Not having patience for things like perspective and extactness is probably why I tend to stick with organic and flowing shapes, but I'm going to have to get it a little more extact for this robot drawing I'm going to make. It'll have a cylinder for a head...
I thought I'd just share something that struck me would be a good addition to this one.
Seeing that the dragon itself is a tree and that the spikes on his back have their leaves, I thought it may be cool to have the dragon breathing fire in the form of branches with leaves on them too. So like, one regular branch coming form the inside out of the mouth forming into several smaller branches with leaves in somewhat of a "flame" form.
Just a thought :).
