game maker was at it's peak in the version just prior to it ceasing to be free. version 4 has most features, and no nag screens embedded in the games. game maker works quite well for 2d game making. i may post a few of the games i've made with it after this month...

Well, game making is "very" complicated.So you can't exactly expect to have a lot more then you're given in say RPGMaker2 for the PS2.Besides, if you had to build it from scratch, you better have some instruction book or some good knowledge on you or you're not really headed anywhere.

game maker is more advanced than RPGMaker. on PS2, you have to use prebuilt models, and use textures provided by the game. Gamemaker is more of a programming language, and allows you to use your own sprites, textures, music, sound, and video.

But that program has only 2D graphics right?I kinda enjoy making a 3D game.And as for videos, you can import em in someway I'm pretty sure and sound, if you're creative enough, you can tweak what you have into a pretty cool sound effect.

yeah, but it's still using prebuilt models, ,unless i am wrong, the game has no modeling or texturing tools

Right now, Noremac and I are learning how to model. He's modeling, I'm texturing. We're gonna model a kiwy as practice. And now, I'm gonna go back to being scared out of my pants while playing Doom 3.

It just occured to me the number of programs or development kits referred to as "game maker"
are we talking about the program that lets you make "rooms" and use sprites, tilesets, backgrounds etc and has the red ball as it's icon, or a development kit for java or javascript? |
||||
bobernater (Apr 6, 2005)
yes the one with the red ball but they made a game maker 6.0....
|

disso (Apr 14, 2005)
the newest version (the last i heard about before i stopped following its development) was shareware, and started adding a "made with game maker" window that remained visible during the games execution, unless you paid for it.
