I have some advice for aspiring artists who plan on going to college: DON'T TAKE THREE STUDIO ART CLASSES IN ONE SEMESTER! every monday and wednesday i have nine hours of school in a row. No time for lunch. It's pure pain. And the work load is nuts. In fact, i should be doing a project right now, but i felt like doing this instead because the assignment is bullshit.

I never got to go to college (blew a scholorship in favor of getting fucked up) and it's times like this that I'm almost glad I didn't go. I had a high school art teacher that told me over and over "Draw what you know, draw what you love, don't do it if you don't feel it."

Edit: Oh yeah, and "If you don't like it, no one else will either."

That's actually quite insightful, since the butterfly is considered to be a symbol of rebirth. (and both subjects are beautiful, so... go ahead, draw it)

I always wanted to take some art classes. Someday, I will.

Anna - An artist cannot be taught, only awakened. You're already awake, darlin'. :)

<3 You are so nice to me, Cindy. *luff*
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 7, 2005)
I'm NOT nice!!!! UGGGHHH! LOL... please don't let anybody put on my tombstone that I was NICE! I am just telling the truth. And part of that truth is, you can learn more here than you can in a thousand art classes. Honestly, I learned more from people like Axil here than I did from any art teacher. You've got a huge well of talent and intelligence to draw from around here.
Gigandas (Feb 7, 2005)
Yeah, I have only 2 and even that's a huge pain.Btw, what specific art courses are you taking?Just curious.
Anna (Feb 7, 2005)
Yes, you are right. I, too, have learned a lot by studying what you, Staci and Dan do. :-)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 7, 2005)
Seriously, though... I have had this horrible problem with perspective my whole life (I have been painting since I was 8)... and Axil explained some things to me in a manner that made everything seem so simple. I also had this problem with muddying things up and making them blurry (I did that sometimes with my real paintings as well as here) and the constructive criticism and brutal honesty around here made me work to fix that (well, sometimes I get those things right, now...heh)
Anna (Feb 7, 2005)
Gotta love those helpful folks around here. :o) Zack has been of some great help to me when I started off here. And if it weren't for Staci, I'd have given up on portraits aaages ago. Awww.. now I have a warm fuzzy feeling with memories. lol
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 7, 2005)
It's really a great place to be. *warm fuzzies floating everywhere* :)

:( great XD I was just about to take three art courses + english lauguage :P lol fine art, graphics an photography. Actualy I'll probably just take foundation art, 3alevels in one. That would make more sense, right? *sigh* ANYHU! skill. n_n.b
sincity (Feb 7, 2005)
sounds similar axil. Mine was being too defiant against the school and it's system, screwed me out of a scholarship. Also had a very supportive teacher, fought for me to get the scholarship but lost. all the other coments here are all so true. I uffs the pic. alex. :}>
spiritdweller (Feb 7, 2005)
you sure can learn alot around here... I never took any classes 'cause I don't want anyone tellin' me what I have to draw..or paint.. or whatever.. that teacher was right, Dan... ya gotta just do what ya feel, if I force somethin' just for the sake of drawing.. it always sucks... I love your cartoons AC
davincipoppalag (Feb 8, 2005)
I had a couple cut & paste kinda classes to get electives in college..but mostly I just wing it.. I learn a lot from the folks here too.
marcello (Feb 8, 2005)
Don't be quick to dump on university art classes... I've only taken 2 drawing classes, but each time I easily improved 10x.
Childlike_Vampire (Feb 8, 2005)
No time for lunch? I guess you truly are a starving artist.... That dude has a cool hat. I like this cartoon style.
Kink (Mar 1, 2005)
That almost reminds me a a dirty Walt Disney joke... But I'm glad I've forgoten it *shutter*. Anyway, thats a very cool looking picture.
