Sorry If this is on the wrong forum
My mom is deciding to start her own business. She has been doing web design for awhile now, but has decided to take it a step further. She knows about me drawing and had seen my actual artwork. What I'm getting to is that she would like to 'hire' me as her graphic designer, making obviously graphics and animations and such. I'm asking for whatever help on this topic I can get. Such as how to make different things, programs, ect. Marcello's help would really help since he owns this site and obviously made it. My mom also mentioned something about making applets and such. This is something I have been wanting to do and I am honored she wants me to do this for her. Post, memo, email, or Msn instant messenger would be great. email- bratishnish@hotmail.com MSN- same as above email. Thank you! |

good programs for this sort of thing would be 'photoshop', 'illustrator', 'coral' to for graphical stuff and illustrations. there are loads of other good computer programs out there, i just can't remember them all. for animation, it depends really on the type. flash is a good animation program that most designers use for the internet. if you wanted to do stop motion animation, i use adobe premiere which allows you to upload avi files from a camcorder and edit stuff. also dreamweaver would be good if you were going to publish them onto the internet.

My mom uses dreamweaver and photoshop. We are getting flash. As for using them, I don't know much about it. I have also never 'played around' with them. Any tips for learning, or anything also would be great. Thanks brainspiller, that did help!!

I got the whole flash package, so your mom is making a good choice by using Dreamweaver. It is a little complex though, but when paired with Flash MX, the site would turn out nice.

avoid flash. yes.
I'd recommend macromedia studio mx, it's cheaper than buying each thing separately and you get everything you need. p.s. don't pirate. |

Thank you very much again! What's wrong with flash Cello? I have heard nothing but good results from it.

nothing wrong with flash, I use it, just avoid it for web design.

Oh, Ok. Well I will be doing the graphics/animations while my mom keeps mostly to the web design.

I agree with Cello. I once made this slipshod website (that I tore down ages ago) with flash. It was always glitchy. I used MX on this other slipshod site and it worked like a angel, too bad I tore that one down too. <:(

flash is fun. im working on one now, actually. it looks like crap so far, but its a little animated clip from a dir en grey music video. (he's playing guitar, you just cant see it)
the last frame takes longer to render or something and it looks kinda weird. but i hear that it looks good on other computers. of course, this is just the doodle, i'll make it fancy later. link |

flash can be pretty good, i've seen a few flash made stuff and they're pretty good. like with most things, you need to practice alot and really get to know your stuff in order for things to look professional. there are better programs than flash though. might be a good idea to get an animation magazine to find out what they are. (or books)

I love flash! I really wish I could make those flash movies that I see in some sites. I'm working on flash...but I'm not doing much. So far I made a stick person...walking. -_-;
Edit: That's cool, inatyrb! Maybe you can host my site. (No, I'm happy with my site the way it is.) |

Flash always takes a long time to load. I hate When I go to a site that over uses flash.
I like to play with MS gif animator, it's a simple program but It is a good program to practice on. Here is a simple little animation I did with Ms gif animator http://home.ripway.com/2005-1/233108/Littleanimation.gif |

Stay away from Corel Draw, its evil. Use Photoshop. at least version 7.0. Dream Weaver is excellent.
I do some graphics design and web site making. http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~zhangpo if you wanna see and maybe post on my forum for some help. |
