How do you use layers?

If you draw something on layer 1, and go to layer 0, the stuff on layer 1 when drawn over will stay.
Simple. You just change it from the bottom layer to a higher layer...... |

It's like a big round birthday cake that you might find in a Dr. Seuss book. But the one in the book is probably pink. It's doesn't have to be a pink cake to have layers though...but it could be.

depends on the program your using. basically... think a clear plastic sheet. you can put stuff on one layer without affecting the others. for instance most people put a sketch on the bottom layer, then lineart over it on the top layer. then erase the sketch and put color in between.
i remember someone drawing a layer tutorial somewhere. |
