WindowsXP Is a gui not a computer. If you have windows, then u have dos. dos is a command line. DOS and windows are 2 different operating systems.
U should press alt and F4 at the same time, It makes your computer stop running unneccesary programs, It makes your computer run faster. |

Actually, windows nt/2k/xp are full OSs, no dos involved. They can sorta emulate dos inside them, but they aren't loaded from dos like windows 3.1/95/98/me.

........sigh
Why don't people go check wikipedia or howstuffworks before posting about this stuff? :) On a side note, I'm on Windows XP Professional SP2, and it works great. It's just a matter of knowing how to set it up right. |

I have only had XP proffesional for a couple of weeks. I kinda liked ME better, but probably cuz I'm not used to XP yet.

ME was crap, it kept on crashing. The problem with ME was that it was Microsofts cheap model to get products out there so that they could make money. XP they actually took time on and runs much better than ME does, just because they actually got the bugs out.. we upgraded to XP after our computer got so bad that we could almost not turn it on.

I use an E machine. Before you all say how much they suck, just let me say I've had it for a few years now and Have had no problems with it. I Run XP and pretty much maxed it out on all it can take. Will build my own soon. Oh my XP is SP2 with office, it is the home edition.

I just asked the employee of that computer store to build me a computer made of the cheapest parts when I bought a new one, one and a half years ago. And it was still much better than the one I had 6 years ago! >:D

I, like sincity, am also using a non-brand name computer, a PowerSpec. It's about 3 years old or something, but I've kept it in good condition (away from spyware ^_^). It's slow, though, compared to modern-day standards (1.8 Ghz, 512 MB RAM) and has a really crappy video card, a NVidia GeForce 2, which is 32 MB. I get about 15 fps on Counter-Strike Source, so needless to say, it's pretty obsolete. That's the familiy-ish computer though.
My laptop, a Toshiba Sattelite ^___^, is basically the same thing except it runs at 2 Ghz and has a Mobile Radeon Graphics card. The graphics card crashes occasionaly, like once a month. I could be loading 2Draw and it crashes randomly, and gives me a blue screen (not the BSoD) that flashes and then my comp restarts. And for some reason both Toshiba nor Radeon have drivers for the card, which Microsoft suggests that I somehow obtain. They both run XP and I'm scared to install SP2 because of program compatibility issues and such. My friend uses Microsoft Wireless Broadband, which claims it supports SP2, but after he installed it, his card somehow no longer recieved signals from the router, although it functioned properly. I think that last sentence was a run-on. |

p3ndragon: tried getting drivers from toshiba?
my comp sucks, (1ghz, 256mb ram, 18gb hd, geforce2go 32mb). anyone want to contribute to the buy-marcello-a-computer-that-doesn't-suck-for-christmas fund? ;-) |

Well, my rig is old, but seems to keep up. I'm only 1.40 ghz . I'm maxed at 512 sdram, I have a radeon 9200se video card, and creative sound baster 16 , because I only have the duel speakers with a sub woofer. A dvd drive( no since in getting a burner for this rig) And a CDR drive. wanted to put in another hard drive (40 gb) but when they told me that I really couldn't upgrade my processor, ( well , not enough to deal with) I thought, ah, wait for the next one. Shortly after I got this Dell bought out E machines and they changed all the stuff inside.
