What type of way do you draw on paper? I draw like the style on Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit" music video. I wish I could do something different so I thought if I saw other peoples styles I could try something different. ^^

So... I like drawing humanoid animals. Not necessarily anime-anthro-kitties and foxes and stuff, but more realistic lookin'. I do better on paper than on this though. I also like drawing birds and stuff with long, lanky arms and legs. Then like, crazy eyes. And spikes. Whoah, colors are invading my eyes. Time for bed.

ty854, breaking the habit is sorta anime, but not really strictly traditional anime. the only part of that video that makes me think anime is the girls eyes. the rest seems fairly close to american? the proportions/everyone else's eyes are more american/western styled.
and while even if you consider it anime you can derive parts of the style and combine it into your own. you can draw traditional anime style with that sketchy/hatchy look or traditional western with the same lines. but that being said, dont copy someones style completely. experiment. do different things. try different subjects, colors, angles, lighting, textures, styles, etc, etc. my style is mine. ive been playing around with 100 different things since jr high. i dabbled in anime for a while. did some realism. scenery (mostly organic). tried a million different styles all over the place. stolen bits and pieces from other artists, but combined and altered them all to make them original and mine. stealing peoples styles is a bad thing. bad bad bad. but you can take certain elements and put your own spin on them and incorporate them into your experience to make your own style. ...talk about ramble. |

My style tends to be fairly realistic. This is about as cartoony as I get. I draw mostly humans now, though before humans I was stuck on animals, and before that, furries/anthros.

Me too. I HATE IT when people steal other peoples ideas! I think if you can't make your own style and be really comfortable and have fun with the way you draw you shouldn't. Anyway that's just my opinion. ^__^

I think you are on the right track Kilala, a good way to learn is by copying, but the best way to learn is by practicing. I first learned to draw by copying X-Men comics, stuff from the Pheonix series in particular. I never claimed them to be original pieces though, and when I showed them off I had the comic with me to compare. "See, see, looks almost like it, huh?" lol.
I draw very differently on paper than I do on oekaki, mostly because my favorite thing on oekaki is color, while my favorite thing on paper is lineart. *shrug* I have been trying not to get locked into a style, I don't really want a distinctive look to my drawings. I want to eventually be able to mold my drawing style and draw whatever I want, in a variety of styles. I blab too much I'm gonna shut up now lmao. |

Hey... Marry Cassett said that! Well...... I do think that we should make your know styles... or we'll just be another artist....DX
